Dyno - I will would love the opportunity to get my hands dirty during my first visit to the salt. I will be there Sunday and Monday. I will PM you my cell phone #
It looks like I might be a bit short handed this year so if someone wants to hang around our pits we might be able to use you. We do have shade and BSing is high on our list of things to do.

Make sure you take in the Dan and Dan show in Impound. I'll be the short chubby one and DW will be the taller one who runs the place. Love to meet you both.
I'm gonna have to cut out a day early, I'm leaving town Tuesday to fly up to Canada to check out some of our other properties, namely some underground mines But Skylark or not, I plan to be there Sat-Mon.

My flight gets to SLC on Saturday afternoon, but I'll truck out to the salt immediately once I can get the rental car loaded up.

I have a question, is it asking for trouble if I drive the rental car out onto the salt? I have been trying to figure this out and either I read it's no problem, just wash every night, or I read about fines of 600 to 1000 dollars from rental car company. Does anyone here have personal experience returning a car and running into trouble?

I've rented two years in a row, taken to the salt, and stayed out of trouble. The guys at Land's End that get $10 to pressure wash your car? offer then $20 for a better job and they do AWESOME. Last year the salt barely stuck to anything, though - this year, it may be super sticky. Just be cognizant of the fact it's a rental, and try to keep the interior salt free as well (plastic lined floor, or care to clean off shoes before entry, etc.).

The wife and I bought cheap sneakers, and every time we entered the rental, we placed our shoes in extra large zip lok bags.kept the car clean as we had other shoes to slip on.

This just wasn't meant to be this year, just got a jury summons.
Ask them to call you for the next round since you have to travel and have already booked accomodations etc.
Make it clear to them you will be available after 8/20/11.
Jury duty can be fun.
Thanks for the tips on keeping rental clean, got out here to Salt Lake City today. Went to a barbeque and show at Salt Lake Speed Shop, great hospitality and awesome cars!
>>>>head, aka arrowhead, aka Tom. It was great meeting you and your son on your first trip to the salt. Glad you were finally able to find us, I didn't think about you not being able to drive in the pits without a pass. Sorry we couldn't spend more time and answer more of your questions but I do think your son "fit" the chair well.
Anyway, it was great to meet ya, hope you guys had fun.
There are very few people in this world who's opinion I value, you are not one of them.
