or maybe blow people's mind by putting an aftermarket jeep tub on a Disco frame
I appreciate the compliment about talent, unfortunately, it's time that I'm lacking

Did they all die not many old ones out there.
not many Discos in the South - you need to go where they breed - LA - there are 157 on there now; starting at 2100 or so. Defenders, though, start at 22,000 and go up to 100k easily.

I like to buy my 4x4s from people who have absolutely no clue how to put them into 4wd. Also, california ones aren't rusting (yet).

I live on a dead end street.. People get lost all the time.. Next street over is half mile away and goes to the jr hi.
8-9pm, I was working in my garage... See headlights, Pause to watch a full size Blazer turn around.. She missed the drive way by one wheel width.. See a shadow.. Walk over with my flashlight.. Elegantly dressed lady all a flutter, stuck and beeded to pick up her hubby the principal of the jr hi..
I say shift it in 4 wheel drive and drive out..
She did not know how.. As dirty as I was.. I got in..never shifted an auto 4X4 before.. Got it in, popped out of the hole.. Set it back..
She asked if I was telling her hubby... Why? ..then asks Will he know?
Shine my light all round... "Nope.. Just one dirty wheel"
Was a real nice purty one and very new.. Shiney.. Prolly only time that been in 4wheel drive.

So rescue rig went up to do what it's name implies... .it was good and bad, the bad, I had to rescue it - it blew another flipping line off the transmission. HOWEVER, other than another blemish on mother nature, the only thing lost was time and 4 quarts of transmission fluid...

The inverter.... worked great when I left, when I got up (I'll post pictures of this later), it didn't work wtf, over? I had to rewire the fuse (long story) and zip tied the wire away from all that's bad.... unfortunately, the remains of the zip tie and the starter wire got up against the exhaust manifold... physics failed today (or God intervened - my theory is on this one) and rather than the wire shorting directly to the battery and melting/exploding the battery - the wire managed to unwrap itself, fuse part of it to the manifold, and another strand then melted apart - thus saving the truck, battery, and the alternator.

And the worst-for wear.... my tail lights worked great hauling the skidsteer 100 miles. But now no longer work - simultaneous with the melting above (no tail lights, no brake/signal lights - however, the brake/signal lights are now lighting the marker lights....oh yeah, and now my highbeam indicator on the dash works.... weird).

So.... fix the transmission lines (again, thinking stainless braided)... rewire the tail lights.... fix the supply wire to the inverter...

Or simply install the new winch on the H3 and say the heck with it for now ....

or both... I can't stand seeing a rig not ready to go when it's so close

Anyway, with all the above... my truck still climbed 5000 feet and performed its mission. Drove on 3' of snow and Of 5 trucks that left, 2 made it.... a willys on 36s, and a new Rubicon (I was very impressed with how it did). I made it within a mile of the top which was as far as I needed to go (to complete the mission).

                    pictures
that little ground strip is important.... d'uh

what happens to an exhaust manifold that becomes the grounding rod

seriously, it should have burned to the ground

once the wire came apart, it should have dropped to the frame and continued to burn.... but it didn't
                    rewired right

yeah, I'm an idiot, but at least I take pictures of my stupidity so that others can learn from my warnings

So, always start a (+) battery run with a circuit breaker at the battery?

Lots of Adel clamps (they don't melt). Love those things.

I've tried that, but with the relative loads (air compressor, welder, winch) it blows the circuit....

Wow......so what did that bullet you dodged sound like at such close range?

You must be living right. Amazing there wasn't a RescueRig Bonfire.

two bullets. I was stopped when I saw smoke rising from under the hood when the tranny line blew..... had I been moving like last year, I'd be buying another transmission. I never noticed when the line cooked - but I'd tested the inverter the day before I went up.

Living right indeed. This is why the ambulance package is such an expensive option I'm guessing, with the price of copper wire these days any serious amperage wiring is expensive.
