Note to self - lower shround on a 98 has pressable clip ends at bottom of core and just yanking on it will break them. Doh.

Jeez, oil cooler, trans cooler all built into one core radiator... amazing little turd.

beer break - lordy, dripping already. Leather couches gain "character" this way. Yuck.
    70mm MAF should be okay for a "5.3" (okay, it's 5.4 if you round up - 5359)

This poor couch may get turned into garage furniture... ;) Meanwhile, this GM thingy continues to deliver. There's two different crank and cam setups for Gen3/Gen4 SBC's.

58x reluctor wheel and 4x Cam Position sensor are 5v signals (gen iv) - The 24x reluctor wheel and 1x CMP are 12v (gen iii).

So much for "interchange" - I'm also thinking the S10 ECM may not fly with the Ford, I may need an LS type computer to get the correct firing order. Off to find out if the Explorer CMP is 5v, and if it's possible to mod it to a 4x signal - I'll probably have to modify the 58x wheel to fit the Explorer balancer.

Another reason why I think I'll go with the later 58x reluctor - see the way the older ones are built in layers? Yikes.

And it looks like the E67 cpu.. err... ECM is the way to go. Gawd, it's a 32 bit RISC.. more tech than we used to put man on the moon! Hell, my first "real" Windows in color capable computer was 16 bit.

Thinking about that... long run thinking, it can do displacement on demand, and the OD in a Z gearset T5 is a .63. I'll laugh like hell if I can get 30mpg out of this thing.

/edit - well, the GenIV doesn't handle anything but drive by wire and uses the BCM for that, and no IAC provision. Means no ac idle stepper and no cruise. Booo. This is a cable setup, so... back to the LS1 computer and 24x reluctor. Good news is, this makes the cam sensor easier, 1x instead of 4x. That means the early v8 Explorer ( 96-98 "sycnhronizer" (CPS) may well work. I think I can drop it in with number 5 at TDC (that's 1 in Chevy) and use the Ford tool. It also means I can find a more common 24x reluctor / sensor. I'm assuming this means it will all be cheaper since there is a bazillion more in the junkyard.

I think I'll pick one up and look at doing it like Randall did depending on it's size. Maybe it will work if I get it phased right to the Ford pickup built in to the timing cover.

LS1 / truck computer ... I want the accessories (A/C) and cruise control to work. It's not that hard to repin and then it will need a couple extra wires added to the harness. Just time involved really.

50.00 computer, no assembly required. You can get them burned without VATS, Rear 02, EGR, Speed limiters removed, correct tire size, etc. for 75.00 usually, or you can go 500.00 for a tuner if that's your thing. I'm on the fence about the tuner... but the 75.00 sounds like the way to start.

Wow - I have so much to learn - reading this stuff is humbling.

I'd usually pick $75 over $500 any day too! ;-)

Roger that - everyting I thought I knew applies to old Ford stuff. The last EFI GM I had (only one) was 23 years ago, and things have changed a bit in the General's camp. Just the changes in the LS world are kinda a lot to absorb.
