It still whines - I'm hoping it's the gears settling in, so I'm going to wait 1000 miles. Also, it has a great amount of lash in the driveline (clunk, clunk).

In any case, I bought a transmission jack for my hoist, and I'll see if I can figure the problem and fix it myself.

Here's the funnyish part - I'm more upset at Jim Green's Performance Center for the crappy work they did machining my car then I am at the GTO situation, even though the dollar figure for the GTO is 10x what the dollar figure is for Jim Green's....

Probably because the dealership apologized and Jim Green said he is perfect and never makes a mistake.

Besides she would either twirl me around or relentlessly tap my body where reachable... Us deafies get it as bad as you hearies...LOL

SBG. i do my kid's rears by feel.. And looking at mesh with the gears painted..
I know a dial indicator is proper... I look for as little play as possible..
Stock there is a little play... But it should not be alot.. My son can hear the differences when I do them..
Road cars need the clearances for heat growth. Derby needs less because f/r shifts are not always "on the brakes"
Immobilize the driveshaft/pinion.. Then move a tire or the ring gear and see what you got with a dial indicator on the ring gear
For his 65 Buick with the 12 bolt, I set it as close to the low end slackwise (less slop) 11years of driving. Still fine.. 455. TA alum heads, headers, full man valvebodied th 400, 950 DP

          Soooo. the saga continues.

The radiator is leaking, to recap. I've been complaining since, well, a year ago that there's an antifreeze smell. Two dealerships couldn't find the problem... if they'd removed the dust cover between the grill and the radiator they would have seen that the radiator was leaking down the seam on the passenger's side.... not only that, but their head mechanic replaced the battery - the tray had to be wet when he did it.... did he say anything? nope.

Honestly, in the lawsuit against Lee Johnson Chevrolet in Kirkland Washington, I'll allege sabotage. A friend suggested that this morning, and I've been mulling that over in my head and I can't come up with an argument against it.

I'm seriously done. I've not identified them to this point, but after getting off the phone with Perry Phillips, head of the service department where he said he'd "try" to get GM to pay for it... I'm flat done. Time to call in other friends, ones I went to school with or worked with...

I'll simply fix it myself and use the term "pattern or behavior in the stream of commerce that harms the citizens of the State of Washington" in a place where those words have very serious meaning and ramifications.

what a surprise, I was right the radiator was leaking - too bad the monkeys at Lee Johnson are so arrogant that they don't listen to their customers....

yeah.... and today's update. Was at Les Schwab trying on wheels and the salesguy says 'man, that rear half shaft sure moves a lot. (damnit!!!! was my thought).

it does. I got home and checked the play of the stub shafts on the other diff I have - there might be .010 play, more like .005, not .035 or more... wtf!!!!

I guess I'll call Gforce myself tomorrow and see what they have to say. This rear diff is very noisy, although it only has about 200 miles on it so far... damn damn damn damn damn damn damn

Man, how hard would it be to swap a 12 bolt in that thing? Or maybe a 9"?

Whine..wrong lash...set too far apart will be my guess from your statement there is driveshaft play
Either pinion needs more shims or ring gear needs to be closer to the pinion..depends...

Break in...yes needed... Heat cyclings actually..
Aftermarket gears recomend you go easy for first 200 miles, unless circle track car then so many laps to warm up then cool down.. Drag cars on stands.
I have installed and sent the kids out to play in derby cars with no problems.. We do not really get much heat, I don't think..

If it is in the 3rd member, would it be spyders? .. Or is it something down the line?
Admittingly, I know almost nothing about IRS except that they move. ..

that is what I wanted - and the dealership ordered what's in there.... what really irritates is the dealership keeps saying "but you recommended Gforce" - it's always convenient where they "forget" that what I wanted was not what they ordered - and they knew that...
