Thanks Dave! I'm about mid point of the project as of now for getting the actual building up. The inside I think I'll have to save up a bit to finish since I'm already over budget. I suppose that will be part two for the inside.Nick Smithberg

Got some dirt work done today. Started to feather the ground from the poured retaining wall to the natural slope downhill.

Also knocked down a few trees to make room for a little patio behind the shop in the shade. Gonna get them cut up this weekend and have a nice little fire in the evening sometime down the road.

Another HOT ONE today! Got the supports done for my poured retaining wall. Should have this area back filled by this weekend. Also got the drain tile in place with some pea gravel over it. I'll just let the skid loader do the rest of the work for me.

I feel your pain, it took 6 months for me to get mine. Luckily we have good dirt around here so compaction isn't as critical (if it was deemed commercial property I would have to do the tests as well). I've had concrete trucks with 10 yards in them and they barely leave a track. It was a pain in the ass to drive those stakes in with a sledge hammer today in the heat.Nick Smithberg

Back filling around the retaining wall is now complete. They used a compactor and went in layers until they got to the top. Looks like my wall supports did a good job! Building guy should be over tomorrow to start laying out the building. I just need to get the area cleaned up for him by tomorrow, hopefully it will cool down some.

Milner, I have never consumed so much water, gatorade, and caffine in my life (need a boost of energy working these 80+ hour weeks)! It's another scorcher here in Nebraska today. I have the drain tile covered with pea gravel now, the dirt guys did some cleanup work and worked on the approach to the building more, and my building guys showed up this morning to get his employees familiar with the job site. He plans to bring the rest of the materials tomorrow, start setting the area up, and possibly start setting poles.

They gave me the option of smooth or brick face, I figured it would look nicer with the brick face. It was pretty cool to see how the wall forms are built and how to do the whole process. I had to spray form release on the forms, nasty smelling oil. The place that makes it is actually down the road from me, never knew that they made concrete products.Nick Smithberg

I was telling him he needs to put castle turrets on his shop now. Show the neighbor's it's good to be the king.
