Its been a while, I had a terrible time getting the engine timed correctly, it broke 3 mini starters trying to crank it at 16 degrees, move it to 20 and it cranks great and runs like crap, pull the timing back to 16 with engine running and it runs like a dream, cut it off try to crank it back and BOOM starter. Its fixed now and has 400 miles on it. I am loving it so far!

How do you get it to go 50mph at 0rpm in the garage?

      LOL

      Interior looks fantastic.
There's always something new to learn.

Can you be a little more photographic with the bottom of that motor PLEASE?

What I really want to know is what, if any, kind of girdle you use, and pictures of it installed, and how fast you plan on turning the motor?

Is that the same 468, just recolored?

And do those red valve covers clear an adjustable valve train?

And where might a guy attain a set of them?

              Scott,
              1) The vlv covers are a remake of the old Hurst/Sharp covers, they were very limited production, a few years back a fellow over on W29 forum and Classic Olds forum had the mold and repopped about 25 sets he goes by Hairyolds here is a link to my build over there, he is commenting on the valve covers on the last page http://w29.boards.net/thread/2744/st...r-week?page=20
              They do clear the rockers!
              2) This is the same 468 block. I only put 531 miles on it last time. It ran AWESOME but I had a tranny issue, I wanted to make cosmetic changes and somehow ended up going a little more radical with the cam/exhaust/heads/intake
              changing to a roller cam 242/248 598/605 112 degreed in @108
RPM air gap center divider milled 3/4 CNC ported
Edelbrock heads CNC ported to 320 CFM
ARH headers 2" collector to 3.5 primary
3.5" oval X pipe into long case spintechs, 3.5 oval inlet/3" round outlet, 3" tail pipes
all hardware will be polished stainless this time
              7 qt pan
going to change over to the polished mondello ps pump and all accy brackets
changing to a 12 bolt 3:73 posi rear narrowed 2" with rear disk brakes
I don't drag race and I see no need to turn that engine above 6k that's where I have the Rev limiter set, so I am not running a girdle, for a mild street nat asp pump gas big block it makes ludicrous amounts of torque just past idle, so I didn't really see the need for a girdle. I may pick up another 455 block in the near future and build a large CI bottom end to use with the top end I have but I don't know for sure, I'd assume I will be pretty happy with it when it is back together!

                  REALLY??????
I tried like crazy to put the 442 under the tree but it wouldn't fit so I had to put it beside it, this year the 442 is going to have a big Christmas and I am getting a lump of coal!

when I was a kid, my parents kept the house at 55 degrees in the winter, and whatever the outside temp was in the summer. One Christmas, I told my parents (in response to their assertion that I was getting lumps of coal for Christmas) that it was fine I was getting coal - at least I'd be warm.

other than that, I'll note, I was a very respectful kid

What was the final diagnosis and fix for this problem you had back in January?

I'd like to see/hear a discussion on timing of these motors too, like where, total timing range, do they like to run.

Well, there were a few things that we did, RobbMc changed my starter to include a brace/additional support on the gear shaft, and Ironically my brand new battery had a loose plate, so during mid stroke of the engine the plate was vibrating causing a dead short and the engine would kick back.....Sounds crazy but another new battery solved the problem!
