My thinker doesn't work that swell so I can barely think it the first time. Besides, this was the lazy way to do it.

A little over-doing it. When I have the new mount and bolt the whole deal in place I'll put a stop onto the frame so the crossmember can't twist. Not sure it could but why find out? Pretty simple mod - I'll post a pic.

What did you end up using for a radiator?

I haven't gotten there yet but I think I'll go with the cheap S-10 replacement. I'll have to run lines to it no matter what I choose so I'm thinking that will do it. A little SS tubing and some elbows will get to inlets and outlets wherever they may be. I can't tell you how helpful the pic was of the inlets and outlets off the engine - I THOUGHT that was how it goes but didn't know for sure.

Heading out to angle the rear axle/pinion flange properly. How did we do this stuff before the angle finder? And I'm hoping for the trans mount probably tomorrow. Pretty much anything Benz-specific has to be ordered - even at the stupid dealer prices they have little in stock for the older Diesels.

Of all the paths you take in life - make sure a few of them are dirt.

In Dan's case, it was a sundial.

                HAHAHAHA. Sorry, had to.

Hell, when I was a boy the sundial hadn't been invented yet. After all, the Sun was a new thing so we hadn't figured out how to harness it yet. Blah, Blah, Blah.......

But seriously - How do you guys stay semi-clean when washing up an installed rearend (not yours, the car's)? I decided to paint the one in the S-10 (you have to be specific with this lot) and got TOTALLY grubby, even on the hoist. Maybe I should have gone for a poncho? Anyhow, paint tomorrow after we get back from Raleigh.

OH, NO!!! I don't do meth. Crystal or otherwise. Doubt I could have cyphered it out, either.

Dan, man... Get a garbage bag big enough for you to work comfy in..
About an inch from the bottom in the exact middle (I find folding it once to get the middle works) make a slit on one side (lets call that side the " front". ) just big enough to get your head in.. The slit will run about where uour collar bone is..
Then on the ends make 2 more to get your arms in.. Reason for the slit where it is is to keep stuff from running down your neck..
Presto.. Cheap, disposable poncho, that does not need cleaning...

Good thought! I have some of those contractor bags - big enough for me and an American friend (or a family of Asians). I should have thunk of that.

But it's all clean and spiffy now so I'm thinking a layer of self-etching primer and more of my GM Engine Blue paint (I have a ton of it left over from the Camaro).

um, overalls.. they make nice ones.. warm too.. I always used to do the trash bag.. but with no lift.. they tend to rip under the car.. so an el cheapo tarp was made into a shirt/jacket, with a few snaps.. works good, and doesn't rip when sliding under a car. either at the junkyard or under my junk.. lift.. it's on my list.. wife keeps pushing that down the list tho...lol

                              Finally some stuff got DONE!

                              Final crossmember shots:

And then, the painted rear. After all that getting grubby it seemed to make sense to paint the darn thing. I don't know if you can tell but I even pulled the shock mount plates, cleaned, and painted them, too. Also the backing plates and companion flange. It REALLY looks better.
