As far a compression ratio goes, I still need to see the pistons installed in the block. I opted to spend my money on the head and went with stock style pistons which are dished and chamfered. But I had the machinist mill the block (asked for zero deck, but not sure I will get it exactly) and had the head guy mill the head to about 70 cc. If it all goes well I'll be close to 9:1 (maybe 8.8:1?). Worst case I'll still be around 8.5:1. That just means it'll take more boost later...

That cam looks like it should work great - it's right in the sweet spot of what the Santucci book recomneds for a street car.... with the head you've had built - the engine should react quite nicely to booooooost.....

Some day mine will get some pressure. Right now I'm just trying for Six Happy Cylinders. Hey, that could be my next children's book!

Finally scored an electric choke Edelbrock 500cfm. Short block is done and waiting for my neighbor's aluminum head Olds 400 to be assembled so we can pick them up together. Head is in the mail. I'll be traveling all next week so the following week I should have a pile of big parts in the garage!

                Happy Birthday to me! (Tomorrow.)

My wife apologized for not having anything (she wasn't excited about my list which mainly consisted of things like head studs, hardware kit, exhaust manifolds...) I told her it was alright I had already bought myself too many presents!

Now comes the scary part. I have to actually do something instead of just buying stuff...

Which one do you think breathes better?

Finally making some progress on the slowest build in history. I lost a few months this summer building a deck, but now I'm back in the garage.

My sweet valve cover will require some major hacking to first make it fit, then make it breathe....

Maybe you need a thick gasket. No grinding necessary if you can find one.

Those side covers are so convenient and 'dem are some long ass push rods.
