I have a 454 sitting in the floor I thought about for the impala but cost to build kept it sitting in the corner.Don't think the old man would be to happy if I used his motor and sold the car.LOL

I can't believe how clean the floors and trunk are on this car - great that you're saving it, I would have expected a flinstone special, the area you pulled it from must have had good drainage?

      These are great looking cars.
There's always something new to learn.

lol, I told my dad (when I was asking about something he was building... slowly...) that he might as well give it to me now, since I'll inherit it all anyway He retorted with something about the prodigal son

          those floors are amazing.. wow

I was very surprised by the floors when I found the car.It sat with no wheels on it for all those years and the factory floors are still there needing only minor patching.

I think (granted, only seeing pictures) that I'd POR 15 that floor top and bottom then call it good. It won't rust further, and the POR adds some strength to the floor.... that and I hate chasing a weld across a rusted floor (or MOPAR roof).

There's a couple places I'm going to fix but other than that the floors are gonna be por15.I hate chasing a weld also, you think man this metal looks thick enough then bam your blowing holes through it left and right.

Here's a few updates.I cleaned the front of the frame and man waht a nasty job.I also scraped all the dirt dobber nest from under the car.I bet there was 10 pounds of them.I'm thinking it might be a good idea just to remove the frame from the car and have it blasted and powder coated. The local coater said he would blast and coat the frame for $400-$500.

Here's the mess I scraped from the bottom of the car.

Front of frame after wire brushing for an hour.

Media blast the rust off and find more stuff to fix before hitting the track, road might be a good idea...
But it sure is cool as hell what you ARE doing..

don't do it, then you'll fix the floors "because it's so easy while you're at it", then "well, we need to fix that slight rust on the side".... next thing you know you'll be looking for billet screws.

Of all the paths you take in life - make sure a few of them are dirt.

You are so right. The original plan was to do a quickie on it and have it on the road in a week or two.Now I keep finding more I think needs fixed or cleaned,if I don't stop looking at stuff it's gonna turn into a full resto project. It needs body bushings so I thought the frame will pretty much be out so it will make it so easy to have it cleaned and coated.

a good cup brush on a grinder like you've used on the front of the frame - keep on going and do the whole frame, then paint with POR, same on floors, then new bushings and get the body bolted back in before it turns into a runner for the riddler award..... ;-)

I think it could be done..the frame painting and all the underside of the body..its just that you need to stay strong regarding more to be done..quarter panel welding can also be done, but let the new steel be primered.

                              Cool project!!

I will be removing the frame tomorrow and carrying it to the coaters Monday. The frame has so much dirt and mouse nest in the frame that it needs removed for a good cleaning anyway.I got quoted $450 to blast frame, clean all the dirt out of the frame channels and coat it gloss black.Sounded cheap enough to me.
