And in my opinion it is indeed, "a damn shame." Saab certainly was not a hot rodder's dream, but they were fine automobiles in their own right until GM got a hold of them. I owned two pre GM Saabs, a 1971 96 (V4 station wagon) and 1973 96 (V4 Sedan). I really loved those cars. My wife and I rallied the 96 and had a blast fording creeks and running throught deep snow (yes in North Carolina). GM tried to force Saab into a roll of being a competitor of BMW. No way without big bucks that GM never was willing to come up with. It is a damn shame what GM did to Saab and left them high and dry.

          if g.m. didn't buy saab.
they'd have been history along time ago..
          they where out of capital..
they where loose'n money before g.m. bought them..
but I'd like to know why a car maker like saab can build the same car for years and years .. and no one in thew auto press call it dates.old. borring
but if g.m. ford /mopar. has a platform unchange for 3 years catch hell..

I own a 2006 Saab 93. It is a great little car. We looked at a variety of new cars when we bought the Saab and found be far the most value in the Saab. The fit and finish of the interior could not be found in any of the other GM cars we looked at, I did not want to spend Caddy type money. The Saab 93 Aero is really fun little car. I probably would have bought another one had the company remained operational.

Saab = homely little cars. GM had no business buying that company in the first place.

Hindsight is a great thing. That beind said, GM is still making homely little cars.

It's not totally hindsight, I would have told you the same thing they day they did it. Ugly cars then, now, and before.

I could see why Koenigsegg would want a car company that was more mainstream. They could use the profits from Saab to prop up the super car division and inject cash into it for development. That hi tech development could filter back to the mainstream cars making them a step above the rest of the competition.

GM is now 1 for 4 when it comes to selling off divisions. Ouch.

It's likely going to be 0 for 4, like the Buffalo Bills in the early '90s. Remember, the Chinese government had environmental concerns over the Hummer deal.

Considering the performance of the division sales, I doubt Fritz Henderson will be CEO of GM for much longer...

One of the reasons they bought it was for Saab's very advanced EFI and knock systems. The cars themselves, meh.

So oh for three. Penske and Saturn, nope, Opel and whoever the hell that was, nope, Saab and Koeniggggggggggsssssssseeeeeeeeegggggg, strike 3.

Chinese government and environmental concerns is an oxymoron.

The Opel deal doesn't count-GM never wanted to let Opel go in the first place.
