Re: Video Bonanza: Dyno Time!
I like the big inch Pontiac a lot. Sounds really really expensive, as if building a 455 Poncho was ever cheap.
If you liked the Cosworth, you might like this F1 video too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGEql...eature=related
The Aussie engine was cool.
Slapping a hair dryer on a VW is kinda cool I guess. It's kinda like polishing a turd though. But it seems like I don't see too many vintage Volkswagens or Porsches on the road anymore, so maybe a bunch of them died at once or something.Comment

Re: Video Bonanza: Dyno Time!
All were cool in my book. Part of the engine emissions certification test is a portion called the MAP, short for Maximum Applied Power. It's run first to determine how much power an engine can make at a given engine speed as the engine tests are based on percentages of speed and load. Anyhow, the engine is pulled to full rack and the dyno controls speed from slightly below idle to (IIRC) 110% of maximum rated speed. The test takes several minutes and results in see-thru exhaust manifolds, etc. I have a disc of some EPA pics that was put together for my retirement party and I'll look to see if it has a MAP on it. Might be interesting.

Re: Video Bonanza: Dyno Time!
nice - that's like catnip to me - that's the part I miss the most about my first job - hearing those engines scream on that dyno.
Thanks for the "fix" ;DThere's always something new to learn.Comment
