Re: Monday Time Killer: Twin-Engine Drag cars
I looked and looked and looked and didn't find one picture of the Odd Couple, probably as famous a two engine car as the Freight Train. At least the Odd Couple was drivable, stories about the Freighttrain were just plain scary. Marvas (sp) was the only guy that could could get that heap from A to B it seems.

Re: Monday Time Killer: Twin-Engine Drag cars
Bob Muravez was the MAN in the Freight Train.
While it's true he seemed to be the only dude who could drive it, he drove the wheels of that thing. It was the best running top gas dragster in the country, winning scads of events and becoming the first top gas car to bust 200mph.
Evil car, but "Floyd Lippencott" seemed to have it by the short hairs.
BrianThat which you manifest is before you.

Ken Theis (odd couple) is a very good friend of mine. He said that although the Odd Couple was driveable, he had a list of top guys driving it, Larry Dixon Sr., Kelly Brown etc. but the only guy that would do what he was told and win was Walt Stevens.

Re: Monday Time Killer: Twin-Engine Drag cars
The two motor cars died just like the Pro Stock Trucks. One day NHRA decided they didn't want Top Gas any longer and if they wanted to race it would be on an index. John Farr had a new two motor car done and ready to load on the trailer. When he got the news he parted out the car and built a flat bottom ski boat.

Re: Monday Time Killer: Twin-Engine Drag cars
This is the exact reason that I want to own a dragstrip and run my own classes. Gas and J/Fuel cars need to exist and run like they are intented to be. It is all about ingeniuity and family fun. These types of cars should be the solid base of any Drag Strip. This is what the people come to see at the track. I'm sorry but bracket racing is just not the draw that anything that is hairy running heads up. I will single handedly bring all of these classes back if I can develop a formula to keep all of the big money sponsors outta my track and the racers in.
I have been watching "LIONS The Greatest Dragstrip" series over and over and it seems to me that this is what a weekend at the drags is all about. Only 6 years left until retirement and the fruit will be ripe for the picking.

My buddy Carl and his partner Yinnick Sire of Sire Fabrication are now building a twin engined hot rod. Carl is just nuts about the car. Yinnick so far won't let me come and take pics, but they are shooting to have it finished for Culver City's mother's day show.BS'er formally known as Rebeldryver

Re: Monday Time Killer: Twin-Engine Drag cars
Cool Site! Jack Moss still has cars in the Make-A-Wish car show every year. I really didn't know he was such an innovator of twin motored cars back then. One of my Dad's friends used to race at Tradewinds Airport with Jack and always had great stories to tell. I used to have my machine work done at a shop right next door to Moss Automotive. I never realized the place had so much history.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.
