I picked up a 95 z28 for cheap two weeks ago and took the 2.73 disc brake rear end out of it and put it in mine. Turns out I had 3.08 gears and an open diff. Guess now I can run through the traps in 3rd gear without it dropping into OD.
You're actually better of with a 3.08 open than a 2.73suedo posi. The 2.73 is too much gear unless you have 400hp. If so, I am mistaken good sirz ;D should have run the z-28 anyways it will just break 135 i think

Trying to get a few things finished for April. Probably running in the same old Class again until the other Mods get completed. Cut a little weight out of the Kia, It might make 120 MPH this time. But, it will be there Friday, the 4th sometime.

DAN, Once we get registered I am at your Mercy.

Hey they Kia is looking pretty good there! (A sentence I never thought I'd utter)

Joey, we'll be putting in a lockup switch on the converter. Should help it out some.

GJ, when I got that Z I was hoping that it had at least a 3.42 and I was planning on installing a 4.11 so it would run up quickly then drop into OD at the top end. With the 3.08 in there it wouldn't pull past 120 once it dropped into OD and staying in 3rd was going to rev it too high. With the TC not locked up is was running right about 5500 at 117 mph when it dropped into OD. That looks to me like almost 17% slippage (2500 stall converter in there). Swapping to a 2.73 and keeping it in 3rd without lockup gets me to 125 at 5200 and lockin it up would get about 150 at 5500. I doubt I can run much faster than 125 or so on motor but with the nitrous I think the combination would be ok.

Joey, I might be wrong but I don't think you need a window net unless you don't have 'other' arm and leg restraints.

Section III-4.2: Limb (arm & leg) restraints are required in all vehicles. The restraint system must be capable of preventing the driver's arms/legs from extending outside the roll structure and/or framerails in case of an incident that includes a body panel separation. Arm restraints shall be combined with the drivers belt system such that the arm restraints are released in conjunction with the driver's belts. All arm restraints shall be kept as short as possible.

NASCAR nets are acceptable as the primary arm/leg restraint on cars under 175mph.

As I read it you can use either the net OR the arm restraints that attach to your seat belt system. Of course call Timney for clarification...

When we ran last fall, we had a window net and the arm restraints but with the speed we were running (179), the starter advised us to run a second window net on the rear window as the seat was so far set back in the 4 door we ran.

if you run over 175 mph you need arm restraints AND a window net. I believe there is a new clarification in the rule book on it. If there isn't its required anyways. Especially if you're going for 2 bills. Which by the way is really easy to do.

i will only be down there as a spectator

since my camaro is a daily driver and a "race" car i haven't had time to do any of the safety upgrades required to exceed the speed limit. i am beater shopping now so that i don't have to worry about my project getting me to work anymore.

Already have the arm restraints. Just didn't know if I could get away with a window net off the 6 point. I'll have to look again tonight.

You guys got the rule book memorized :D

I sent in my registration and membership fees last week so hopefully I should be getting the new rule book soon. It would sure make sense to run both above 175. I kep a lookin in the 07 book but I couldn't find it. David got way more sperience than I do with going fast so I would say he's correct. (you like the redneck speak I got goin thar?)

How fast are you shooting for Joey? What class?

Should tech to 175 and hopefully run low 180's (As long as I don't get the Keith conference this year again :D ). Going to start with b/g/ss and see how the new motor only does, then may try the other classes if theres any time (prob not).

                          b/grs

Sounds like the vette got some beans! Firgure a hair over 500 rwhp to go 180 I'd guess. Remember Real Street is single 4 barrel carb only. I thought you had FI.
