There's many rebates now, I read about a guy in SF Bay area got $40,000 system, but after 30% federal tax credit, PG&E rebates and state tax credits it cost him like $10,000.
Joe
They got a rebate from Southern California Edison and some tax rebate money that brought the material costs down to around $20,000 (which is all paid after the system is up and running and even then there are multiple hoops to jump through and red tape to slash to prove you qualify for them). But also mind you he did all the labor himself, I don't know what the tally on that would have been for installing 13 panels, mounting the inverter, and running all the electrical wires. So definately not cheap up front, but in this case worth it at the end. Solar and Wind are definately case by case solutions, not blanket solutions for everyone (like some causes would like you to believe).
