    1970s automotive accessories

Well, I've done the majority of the freshening up my truck, now I'm going to do some more visual changes and got me thinking about period correct parts.
What're your favorite accessories/trends from back then? I love CB whips, bright driving lights, and fender flares.
Rumors of my demise by rollover have been greatly exaggerated.

heh...three things I wouldn't have on my truck!

I had a bigfoot gas pedal, and an autometer tach on the dash, and a B&M floor shifter, but not much else. On my truck in the 70s.

I have a few 1970s JC Whitney catalogs, if you really want to remember all the crap that was available.

I still have the big foot pedal.

toolboxes for behind the cab, like today, were annoying, and weak. Custom toolbox was a sight to behold..or an all steel one with rust. No diamond plate.

Cassette was way ahead if you had one in the 70s.

tractor trailer mud flaps trimmed down in my region was a common sight.

                  the jimmy belt buckle.
I'd possibly vomit if I saw that in use.

I got so mad at a detroit gmc, I jumped out after rocking the cab to violently to do so, I was never getting back in.

I was 13 years old that summer. I called it a midget mobile.

I was bad anyway. It wasn't until my dads first 260" wheel base (still not a giant - but doing good) with 500hp that I truly believed I could be a trucker.
anyone know what recent year that was?

I hated trucking for more than a decade of my young life.

                  something to add:
custom bumpers. Still common today..but today is way over the top.
Custom as in cop car bump stops up front on oem, or extra welds to avoid a low hitch in the back one. Simple things.
Do the least to get the most.

in fact , this summer I am finishing my version of oem bumper, with internal out of sight weight dispersion. I want an 800 pound tongue... but won't ever go beyond 2 inch ball. Stay way under what the build is.

Pretty much a fixture on any '70's street machine.
