This caused aeration of the oil and eventual loss of oil pressure.
I revved it at 3000 in park to simulate these guys hauling ass down the highway. I figured it was a drainback issue or sludge problem. Immediately pulling the dipstick revealed bubbles. After sitting for a while the dipstick revealed a severely overfilled crankcase. (a case of our guys thinking more is better). I had the guys change the oil and filter and *poof* it's good as new. Oil pressure is rock solid and nothing is acting weird. 2 shops were thinking total engine replacement and one thought it was a timing issue... :o
While being wrong, I was thinking "bad oil filter", but an oil and filter change (with the right amount of oil) would have fixed it... and I might have never known the culprit was over filled oil level.
Glad you figured it out before shelling out a bunch of money!
