  • I love the music!

The music on all the shows was really impressive. If you don't think so, just turn down the volume, or pretend you're only listening to the voice track. Lots of drama there. (The crew cab Chevelle doing donuts without cranking guitars double-tracked in stereo through a Marshall amp with a Dumble mod just isn't the same.) Trust me, it's really hard, thankless work crafting music for video like this, having done it myself many years ago. And the music track is different on each story too. It would've been so easy to cheap-out in this area, and most productions do.

    Bravissimo!

    Johnny,

I enjoyed the music as well. Cool stuff, indeed. Are you a Les Paul kind of guy or a Strat fan???

Rickenbocker - although I'm a half-assed bass player. Fender 100 watt Bassman. Mostly a drummer though. Love them Rickeys - ask Tom Petty.

My current guitar collection consists of:

Fender Strat (US made in Corona)
Fender Telecaster with Seymour Duncans (Mexican)
          Ibanez SR500 Soundgear bass
          Epiphone Casino (Gibson ES-335 copy)
          Fender G8 acoustic
          Yamaha 730 acoustic
Danelectro doubleneck '59 (baritone and standard necks)
Aria Pro II custom shop edition Strat (Seymour Duncan mini-humbuckers)
Epiphone Les Paul (black w/chrome hardware--Les Paul copy)

And arriving tomorrow via UPS: Danelectro '59 reissue (like Jimmy Page's, but with blue sparkle)!!!

i had les pauls and strats....but i got rid of em......now im strictly an Ibanez guy......

            i had 7 of em, .............but now im just down to 1 Jem, 2 Rg2550's, a couple acoustic/electrics....and a P-bass........

after a while...when you got so many, it breaks your heart to see them sit there and collect dust.....so i minimized my collection......

Get a Danelectro. It's the AMC of guitars. And like AMCs, they're cheap too. Surely, Freiburger can relate to that. It sounds like a Strat, only better.

Damn, Johnny! I didn't know you enjoyed that many guitars. Cool stuff! By the way, how do you like that Casino? I have been eyeballing one here locally.

My stable is down to 3 guitars....

I still have my first guitar, a Yamaha FG-512 twelve-string (bought that sucker new in 1977!).
I also have a 1983 Yamaha G-240 classical (purchased that new, too) and an American-built 1985 Fender Bullet (looks like a Strat body combined with a Telecaster neck.) with the kick-ass original Fender stackable hardshell case (I am the second owner of this one, bought it in 1987).

I bought my son a MIM Strat for Christmas. The smile on his face to this day tells me I did the right thing.

I am currently looking for someone who desperately wants to rid their self of a Fender Hotrod Deluxe amplifier.... ;D

Ron, how much do you want for the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe? 12AX7 pre's and a pair of Groove Tube 6L6s in the power amp stage isn't too far off from a 540 big-block with a solid roller cam. That 12-inch Eminence speaker and 40 watts will really rattle the windows too. What kind of deal can you cut me on that? If I ever have someone over for a jam session, that would make a nice match to my Line 6 Spider Valve 112. FYI, new, unboxed HRD demos are going for around $540.

I like the Casino. It actually plays better than, and sounds as good as, the ES-335 I tried the day I bought the Casino. (I got a blonde one with gold hardware.) The only thing I don't like is the long headstock, which screws up the balance if you play standing up like I do.

Re-read my post, Johnny.... I am wanting to BUY a Hot Rod Deluxe... preferably dirt cheap. (yeah.... I know, I am dreaming.)

As far as standing up with a ES-335 or one of its copies, why do you suppose B.B. King sits down to play? At his age, that thing would tip him over if he tried to stand up!

12AX7s? Yikes. I thought those were the "Hey! let's put these in here so we can call this a Tube Amp!" tubes that sound like transistors? At least in the world of recording, those are about the only "tubes" you can get in prosumer stuff. I come from the land of homebuilt preamps though, perhaps I am an audio snob!! Groove Tubes makes nice replacements, depending on who owns GT any given year.

I do like your recordings though. I have a project studio myself. For the 18 months I lived in SoCal here recently, I *loved* going to the vintage audio shops and being able to see/hear good equipment in person. Out here in the midwest, sadly, there's little like that.

Ah, the glow of a pair of KT88's. My first bass amp used a Wurlitzer power amp, and a home made preamp made by a guy I worked with who was an EE - that's Electrical Engineer for those not in the know. I played it thru EV design folded horn cabinets (home made) with an EV SRO 12" in each. EV used to send out plans for those cabinets free for the asking - don't know if they still do. I don't know much about the electronics stuff, but I loved that rig. Didn't have the power when we started playing bigger gigs, though.

                          Re: I love the music!

Back in the early '80s, I used to play stereo through a pair of Ampeg SVT amps, each hooked to one of those huge 4x12 Ampeg bass cabs (those tall ones). Before the days of pedal boards, I had a Cry Baby Wah-Wah going into a Tube Screamer, then into a Roland stereo chorus. That damn rig used to make my ears bleed. Those tubes would glow bright orange on every power chord, and I swear I thought they were gonna blow up in my face!

I bought those 100-watt Ampeg SVT heads used for about $250 each. Now they go for $2K a pop in ratty condition. They're kinda like Mopars. Everybody thinks they're made of gold bullion.

Back in his bass-playing years, Johnny really made some big noise....
