however - I like the craftsmanship on the flares, I wonder if there's a formula to make the amount of the rise on the flares look right for the depth of flare? calibrated eyeball? I am doing flares on the spider - and hope there is a cheat as my eyeballs need recalibration.

Flares can go very right, and horribly wrong - depending on the calibration of that eyeball - the ones that work for racing tire clearance don't always look good, and the ones that look good - don't always provide adequate clearance to be long lived in street or track service.

The 70 boss302 I bought as a basket case in '87 had HUGE meyer racing flares all around, fiberglass bonded to the steel fenders and quarter panels.... the rears looked pretty good, the fronts, not so much. The previous owner's plan was to run N50-15 on all four corners.... he never even got the engine, trans, wiring, or interior back in the car, I got it as a bare shell, with probably the worst roll cage ever - likely produced by the same guy that put the one in Lohne's Jav.....

I would try to buy a set of flares and graft them on to the spider body using epoxy resin - NOT polyester resin.

Unless you can find a set in steel you could make work.
There's always something new to learn.

Back when I had mine I went to the local chevy dealer and bought the 5th edition chevrolet power book. It had all kinds of flares and such, plus other stuff. It was a pretty cool book for a teenager.

3.8 and 3800 have different bolt pattern bellhousings. The 3.8 shares the BOP pattern, where the 3800 is quite a bit smaller for FWD.

I already have one sitting around, just havent gotten to it yet. Plans include a 455, back half, cage, and lots of fun.. if the rust doesnt get to it first.

i would not want to use the trans the 3.8 has any way. instead i would eather swap in a 4l60 or a T56 depending on the type of driving

just had one about a mile from the house show up. 250 bucks and it could have been ours but we bought a fiero instead, it already had a locker 5 lug conversion kit and even a 305 with a broke cam shaft came with it

They have a torque arm like a 3rd-4th gen F body, so you need to mount it somewhere. The tailshaft of a Th350 fits pretty good, or you can mount it to the body. Tubbing it changes everything though, and a 4 link would be the hot ticket. Mine has a 4 speed behind a 3.8, so one of those ST10s might be nice in there, if the knees can handle a clutch.
