If my car sits in the same spot for a whole winter, it takes 10-20 miles for the flat spots to go away.

back when I was a boy.......... my father bought a set of the new fangled radial's... they were advertised as "nylon belted". They would flat spot in an afternoon... no $hit..... seriously.... they were really bad.... dad was *issed. the vibration they had was truly unbelievable even for a 12 yr old kid with no experience.
But I have left todays radials sit for about 2 yrs without driving them and had no flat spotting... but as soon as i re-mounted them on another set of rims - ( i didn't pay attention to the rotation ) they seperated from the carcass and went out of round. I have had a couple sets of used tires (poor boy stuff - ok?) do the splitting of the tread from the tire... so If you do take 'em off ... mark 'em for the rotation the same as when they were originally on the car. but with your means, BUY new ones!
i do have a full set of almost new Firestone 721's if ya need 'em.............cheap.Mike in Southwest Ohio

Interesting oldsman496...
It must explain why my bleeping flatbed always has tires outa round...used ones with no attention paid to rotation...
I did have a complete set of new tires from a cheap chain here in the PNW...they went out of round. They blamed it on my "old truck". (77) or it was all the "overloading " I did...
Even the Suburban that got new tires went out of round...
Anybody else have that problem??
Sorry for the hi-jack. Related problem. Just oposite?

Bubba the Truck (our F-150) will develop mild flat spots in the driveway overnight sitting on the concrete in chilly weather, but they go away in a few miles.
Haven't noticed it on either of our cars, regardless of how long they sit. BUT, they sleep in the garage...
And RE Bubba's tires...(another thread hijack), I became conscious of speed rating when I (we) were looking for a set of speed rated tires for Red to do the Mile. I bought Red with set of brand new Ju-Jitzu tires.....(made that up, some brand nobody ever heard of in any case), and they had a low speed rating. Got to looking, and Bubba's new tires are rated at like 800 mph (not really, but a whole lot faster than you'd want to go in a pickup). Seems the truck tires are all about sidewall strength, weight capability? And hence the speed rating, like when they fly apart from the centrifugal force...dunno...
Thought about just bolting Bubba's tires/wheels onto Red to save some money for the Mile...nahhh. Anyhow, didn't even check the bolt pattern. 17's vs. 18's anyhow.Last edited by pdub; April 9, 2012, 04:00 PM.Charter member of the Turd Nuggets
