  • Home Made Electrolysis Tank

I'm gonna make a big one of these this weekend.

    http://1bad6t.com/rust_removal.html <---link

I have to refurb some suspension parts for the S-10 & I don't wanna spend all day scuffin & scrapin on them.
My friend made a small one to de-rust an Allis Chalmers carb, it turned out really good...

Anyone here ever make one of these?

Got washing soda & a 35 gal tub, 19" deep, perfect for control arms & springs. Sparky & Thor approve.
I'm gonna make a wood box for the tub to sit in so the sides don't bulge out from all the water.
Got some rebar from work today, gonna cut it up & fit it tomorrow...

You will have fun with this. I whipped up a quicky one at work from a power supply out of a dead computer and a plastic hand cleaner container.

And you have the same wash soda I used. Its really cool how well this works. I'm getting ready to hang a TypeIV engine enough to do this to the cylinders/pistons while its assembled.

          Cool cat too.

Guys don't have to DO hair removal, Gail. We just wait a couple of years and it removes itself. Well technically it migrates from our heads to our ears and other places.

Got the anodes cut & mocked up..

                          I have 16, 5/16 rods, & I don't think that's enough.
This process tears the hell out of the anodes.
I'm guessin I'll get 2-3 parts done before the 5/16 rod goes south.
I think I'm gonna get some torsion bars from work to add to the 5/16 rods.
Spring steels tough as hell & should make for some good anode rods.
I'll post more progress & pics tomorrow..

I finished the tank today, & it turned out kick ass!!! I used 4 tire irons to make the frame, & threaded the ends of the rods.
The tire irons fit the contour of the tub perfectly.

Matt lined the inside of the tank with foil so he wouldn't burn through the plastic.

There's a few burn marks from welding, but it's fine, didn't burn through anywhere.

                              Here's the finished product..

Here's some tractor porn, Matt was working on his 1945 Allis Chalmers Model D when I showed up...

                              He has 3 other Allis Chalmers, 2 other late 30's-early 40's model C's & a 40's model J..
Tomorrow I'm gonna try this thing out. I did everything by the book, so it should work just fine.
