New wheels for the Impala. Any ideas?

I've had these Cragar Street Stars since '97. I'm changing direction with this car. I want it to hold corners. That means going up in brakes (in the future) and better grippy tires.

I want massive, wide tires in back, like 305 to 335's in 17's out back 275 to 295's up front.

I'm looking for ideas for wheels. I know what I don't want. Torque Thrust II's. GAG!! Besides, everyone and their sister has them on their junk. I ain't made out of money, so as much as I love me some Forgelines; I ain't got $1100/each for a set.

So, get your thinking caps on and come up with something unique, different and good looking.

I may stay with 15's if I can come up with brakes that will fit and super wide meats.

If you really want the car to turn, you are going to be pissing up a rope when it comes to good performance tires on 15" wheels.

I'd probaly go with torque thrust 2.


in my own opinion as the car is going to challenge everything..going too wide breaks at something in the rear end. bearings on the ends, something in the middle.

I am one who went through every retarded nightmare with a 74 chevelle. it started off with 14 inch.
Almost as dumb as an 87 subaru with ten gears and 13 inch. bad mismatch.


I'd go with those cheap black nascar wheels all the way around.

they never did make a strong wheel, it is not like impalas are flying through the forest as a rally car leaping sideways. They never really cared until tubbing for a drag race.

why go inbetween. the expense would never end.

I agree on the 17". They're the new 15" You're going to have a huge selection of tires at better pricing. Beside, with bigger brakes, you're going to need the room. I was looking at this company, they say their wheels are USA made and from the pricing I saw on bay I was looking at for my wife's Mustang, they look very reasonable. Like Chinese pricing.

I'm a fan of the Cragar Eliminator wheels, thinking about a set for my Bird, only available in 7 and 8" though ...
