  • A Pretty Neat Shortcut

I'm probably the last person on earth to pick up on this, but if you're running Windows on a PC, you can get to the desktop instantly by holding down the Windows key and pressing "D." No matter how much stuff you've got running.

I showed that to a young kid at work a few weeks ago and he was amazed. It beats the heck out of Minimize, Close, Minimize, Minimize, click click click, etc.

There. Maybe I'm good for something, but I doubt it. I'm slow. And late.

It's right there between CTRL and ALT on the bottom left, the place where you have a smoking hole on your own keyboard.....sorry.

just messing with you. I use a 20 year old keyboard...because I can. Notice there's no number pad, either. IBM quality, still working as good as it did in 1992.

We used to have a bunch of those keyboards at work, running a platform that relied on the function ("F") keys. If you want F14, you had to hold SHIFT and press F4.....add ten. That was a hard thing to teach, where I was at the time....to the given audience.

I'm not giving you a hard time. I know the desktop of which you speak doesn't instantly make the keyboard disappear but, when i hit it, all the stuff comes up that is loaded on the computer.that what you mean? If so, no, I didn't know I could do that.

Yeah, that's it. It minimizes all the stuff you already have running. It's all still humming down there on the taskbar.

It's a toggle. Hit it again and it all comes back.

Cool! Send me a bill Whelk. Man, that's cool, but I'm easily amazed. Ammo do that again right now - gone....back....Man that's cool.

You might have some fun with ALT TAB too. Open a couple of programs hold the ALT and then toggle through with the TAB key.

CTRL-ALT-<down arrow> turns the screen display upside down. CRTL-ALT-<up arrow> fixes it back.

That's fun to mess with somebody's computer at work. I can't get that to work here at home, though. Different drivers or something.
