    Re: Definition of a "Street/ Strip Car

    My car is slow by today's standards. Probably only a little bit quicker than a factory original Mopar A-body. I have no doubt I could have made it a lot quicker without spending any more money than I did, but I wanted to be able to hop into it and drive 200 - 300 miles to an event without problems. So I chose my combination accordingly.

    Hopefully, I can get a day off this summer to take it to the track and see what I ended up with.

      My car has been on the edge before,4.56 spooled Dana,Liberty Pro-Shift Hemi box,Long V-Gate shifter,fuel cell etc...
      I have since backed it down a few notches,3.54 gear spooled Dana,Liberty "face-plate"Richmond 5-speed,still with a Long V-gate fuel cell.The 3.27 low gear in the Richmond makes it a much better choice for a street/strip car because now when I drive it to the track I can do 60 MPH with the tach only at 2500 RPM's

        Dont worry about it man. Have fun with your car!! I run 11:1 compression a 258/[email protected] cam in a 350, 3" exaust, a fuel cell, the battery is in the trunk, theres no radio right now,detroit locker, roll bar, i had a V-gate on my 5 speed richmond and I think its going to go back in, I dont have my sway bar, I run 3 1'2" skinnies up front with 80/20 drag shocks, no heater blah blah blah. Who Cares??!! My car is an all out racecar by most standards but I just dont have the $$ to get it back all street fancy right now HAHA. Its your hotrod, have fun with it even if others arent pleased with it or its a little road unfriendly. Hell I drive mine on long cruises and have gone up to Car Craft in St Paul and back a few times {roughly 600 mile trip}

          It sounds like a fun car to drive on the street! Cars like your have to be driven, unlike your daily driver type car that ya stab and steer with the a/c on.

              LOL

              It rode on a trailer because if look at the windows, you will see the fresh impound marks. It had been impounded on 4 different occasions due to the tires- NOT FOR HIGHWAY USE in big letters on the front and rear tires- Do Not Pass Go. Go Straight to Jail. lol.

                  that does not look like a trailer queen. sure it might be on a trailer, but it looks like it's got somewhere to go, and something to do when it gets there.

                        Kind of hard to drive a car on the street if it won't meet basic equipment laws, eh? what's really, really strange about my 55 is that I've put over 60k miles on it and never been pulled over ever, for anything.

                          Re: Definition of a "Street/ Strip Car

                          I was driving my 1969 Road Runner, complete with a fresh 440 and 4-speed, taking my buddy Jeff out to the "proving grounds" south of Carbondale. About half a mile from where I was going to stomp on it, a highway patrol officer met us coming the other direction. I was well under the speed limit, minding my own business, yet he quickly turned around and followed me. My heart started racing as I was thinking about the idea of getting a ticket. I turned off the highway, and stopped at the bottom of the exit ramp, turned on my left turn signal to go under the over pass and proceeded. As I ran under the overpass and signaled to turn left back on to the highway, the officer flipped on his lights. "Great," I thought. I pulled over to the side and pulled out my wallet with my license and proof of insurance. The officer approached my window and said, "My dad had one of these!" We proceeded to shoot the bull for a few minutes and recalled the splendors of driving a big block 4-speed car with smiles on our faces. As he told me to have a nice day, my buddy Jeff looked at me and said, "You lucky sumbitch! I NEVER get pulled over for someone to BS about cars!" I figured sometimes the sun even shines on a dog's ass and proceeded on my merry way. I didn't do a burnout for 5 days! LOL!

                            i dont see the need for things like PS,ac,heat ect. if your going fast enough it makes up for it all....i mean power steering for example,if your doing 150 the car is no problem to turn.AC is a waste because going that fast you roll down the windows and BANG you have free ac right there, but if its cold just were extra pants and shirts and problem solved ;D nothing going fast cant solve...nothing

                                Thanks for all the stories...I am pretty content with the mess I've made I guess...I mean heck its a Rebel Machine...when I came out of Wal Mart last night a guy was waiting to see under the hood...he had a thousand questions...and the biggest thing is...nobody sees one of these out in the real world...I mean the event I went to in Columbus was an "ALL AMC" event...100 cars there and I had the ONLY red white and blue Machine...and one of two total there...someone said something about not stripping out such a rare car...well it won't ever happen...it has a few little holes here and there that would have to be addressed if it was to go back to "Stock"...other then those I could convert it back without any problems
