  • Datsun 510 ....

... or it snowed and I'm bored.

For some reason I started thinking about old Datsuns ... not the new Nissan, but the originals..

    How would you build it?

Way high on my short list-always had a big hard-on for one. Dad bought one new-a yellow 2 door. It was mom's car. I remember watching the BRE 510s race when they were new. I always made it clear that it would be MY first car. When I was 14 mom traded it in on a Celica, and I never really forgave her for it. Never see them around here-ever. They all rusted to nothing 30 years ago.

I'd put a Nissan SR20 motor in and just make it fun to drive. The really trick swap for those is a turbo rotary.

                      if I had one,
I'd sell it to a paying dreamer.

There is a strong following for those old 510's here in the south land. Prices reflect that following.

It seemed these and the Toyo Corrollas of the early 70's were cars of choice back in my pizza delivery days.

Bought one for $15 when I was 17, told it needed upper end. Uncrossed 2 plug wires, drove it a year and sold for $350.
