  • Why is it?

That every project in the project thread (mine included) start with the words "a low-buck project" or "quick flip?"

Why don't we just start with the words "I hope my wife doesn't find out how much this car really costs?"

Doing it all wrong since 1966

Because we are merely fooling ourselves, thus our wives in the process..

I think we all INTEND it to be low buck but it escalates into something else, like a particular Corvette that was supposed to be gone quickly as I recall. I have one in the works that was supposed to be a low buck driver but after continually chasing the next weak link, it no longer qualifies, or won't for long, to be in the under $5k section. And my wife condones everything I've done AND intend to do to this one.

SBG, the only "project" I've ever done was Red's brakes, and they cost a lot. And Unit bought them for me. Plus tools. So....it ain't the same everywhere. Said the lawyer team for the defense.

          Wow, where to start.

I don't think there is enough time left to explain.
          I'm still learning

You are either very deprived or very much behind. I think you need to catch up.

I'm just not at all experienced. Burned Red's stock brakes up on the road course, wanted better ones - the wife got them for me for Christmas. I bought the tools......back to the thread topic, we're in this together, we are. Although I'm the only one in it.

I may have a tin can disqualified for the 5k challenge..
No one to get mad at me except myself.

I'll add it up when I gather courage.

I am more intimately familiar with your brand of tin can than I care to remember. After four plus years wrenching on those at a dealer, I fail to see how anyone could love one as you do. I am not judging you as I feel to each his own, but I will never understand your dedication to that car, just your dedication to the hobby.

I think it's classier than saying "Look at this lump of shit I couldn't resist that is now decomposing in my driveway. You'll probably like it, my neighbors HATE IT" or saying "Project eye sore"

This is what garages are for, hiding that lump of shit until it's a rough diamond, or at least shiny coal.

                          That says it.

When I was following Matt around...I think it was when the Power Tour was stopping over in Chattanooga two three or four years ago, Matt's car The Pumpkin ate the clutch on the way. Wherever/whenever it was he showed up telling the story about The Pumpkin's clutch and how it got fixed.....

It came out of my mouth - "Wow, this is an expensive hobby." I still remember me saying that out loud. And the end result was, I bought a car I sure didn't need, a car that would go faster than a Prius.

PW, your sig says it all. I haven't had a sensible car since I got rid of the first one. Even the family mini-van got poly bushings during a front end rebuild.

My latest project was never going to be 'low buck', but rather budget conscious with my wife knowing the full costs the whole way. So far I'm 2K overbudget on the engine and almost an extra 4k spent on a new tranny and all the extras needed to finish it up. The wife is bitching, but she understands the sentimental value we have for the car.
She's the best, and no I won't sell her.
Yes I'm talking about the wife here.
