I bet his grand pa got caught up in a live drive line on old 2N ford. His dad forgot to tell the tale? Thought I heard a kid in the background, she will learn the hard way.

I can't find a couple of the "widowmaker" vids I had seen before. Obviously, I was looking into log splitters at one point.

Sorry Tardis - I was looking for wood processors, splitters, and home made saw mills over the last couple of years.

This white stuff, is that Poplar? We have a ton of oak and pine here. You don't use the pine in the fireplace unless you don't like your house, and the oak is splintery and knotty as hell. I won't cut a pecan unless it's dead as long as it still makes nuts. Mesquite is pretty hard on saw blades.

Unicorn design seems to have plenty of flaws, along with the wheel of death....

My used huskee works pretty good, got it for $100 with a bad engine, put a new $165 10hp tecumseh on it with some new hoses, one new wheel/tire, and - it splits pretty much everything I throw at it, horizontal or vertical.

Thankfully it sits just about level behind the JD420 that came with the house we bought in March.
There's always something new to learn.

At the "wood cutting area" way up in the woods (yarder deck after the yarder moved on) a guy set up a splitter like that which bolts to one rear wheel .. The ground holds the chunk in place while the screw does the business.. Well.. He got it all hooked up straight from the box....starts up his rig and it takes off, off the blocks and sinks in the ground... Very important caution was not read: NOT FOR LOCKED REAR EQUIPED VIEHCLES..

Ah.. Was having problems geting the vid Tardis posted to play so skipped then went back..
Those were actually around in the mid 70's.. Big thing.. .. During the wood stove boom when gas skyrocketed from $0.45/ gal to $1.00/ gal!

                            I like this way:

I don't know if the axe he's using is all that special, but he sure makes efficient (German) use of it.On balance it's probably the elastic band that is key ...
