  • I bleed mud

today i set out to hit three different events to cover for BS, I get to my first one which was a open test and tune / play day at the local dirt track that I will be at a number of times this year, ..... well things were not going to plan and there were very very few cars so after hanging out for almost a hour and still no car turning a lap on the track I head out to hit event #2 of the day which was just up the road ... literally, it was maybe 5 miles away.

Upon driving into the gates of the Down South Offroad park I headed down a very bumpy rutted up road and second guessing myself asking if I should be doing this but pulling up behind this, my feelings quickly changed

I was then asked to sign a waiver that covered all their bases no matter what happens to you, yea even if a stripper thats in the wet t-shirt falls off the stage and lands on you thus causing you to land on a rabid raccoon its not their fault.

So upon handing over my signed waiver and ... gulp ... $45 to enter the park I asked them where the mud drags were since I was to cover the racing part of Muddy Gras mud event and to my surprise I got a personal escort thru a small portion of the 700+ acres of the Down South Offroad Park, the place is enormous, an atv riders dream, hundreds upon hundreds of side by sides 2 seaters, 4 seaters, quads, even a few three wheelers ive never seen so many before. Getting to the back of the park I find a spot a park my truck out of the way of the riders and mud trucks and a quick talk with Hunter is pretty much the head guy of the place he gives me the ok to shoot racing pics from where ever I want, coarse some of the racers that Ive met over the past couple of years vouched for me saying I do good work and im not going to do something stupid

with a good turn out of race trucks and a few trucks signed up to hit the mud pit i was able to get front row for both groups of trucks. One particular truck stood out from the lot of them, what started life as a late 60s 2wd long bed it became a 4wd short bed and powered by a lil less then stock 460

I wish I had an atv to get around but i was kinda limited to the area I could roam around in so within my short walking area I was still able to capture alot of pics. Towards the end of the day Hunter who earlier gave me the ok to have free roam shooting racing pics asked me how the pics came out and ask if i was going to stick around for the evenings adult entertainment and told him I has to get home to the wife but was really going to the saturday night Kemah Cruise (which was killer tonight) but seeing stuff like this, im now addicted and have been invited to come back out and take pics again, next time I need to take out a 4 wheeler

To cover a 4X4 mudfest of any calibur, you must run around in a 4X4!
