                I guess that one's just too esoteric for this crowd...

                It's the core memory from a 1975 computerized cash register.

                There are 64 x 64 = 4096 of those little round ferrite beads in a 2" square area. This used to be less expensive to make than integrated circuit memory chips...but 1975 was about the turning point.
