    Car Junkies in the neighborhood

So the question is...are you the lone wolf Car Junkie in your neighborhood or are there others as well?

My neighborhood is chock full of them. My neighbor George is an awesome guy who race Pro Stock motorcycles professionally in the 1970's and early 1980's. The guy rules and loves when I drag weird stuff home (Worthington, Seth's Chevelle, Studebaker...etc). Seth met him and he'll vouch for George.

Up a couple houses is a guy who is a tractor freak that has drooled over the Worthy a couple times and stopped by last night to look at the Stude. He was freaking out. He sells old wrecks our of his repair shop and he was seeing green with the Studebaker.

Around the corner from me is a really wealthy guy with a sicko home shop that is fully outfitted with everything (lift and rotisserie included). He owns an electrical contracting business and has several hot rods and muscle cars. George knows him too and in talking to George last night, he said Scott will be by today to look at the wagon as possibly let it reside in his home shop for it's disassembly/resurrection..etc.

So are you on an island or are you surrounded with car junkie pals?

Screaming Detroit is a baseball throw away. We're usually doing something stupid every night.

Last night it was repairing accident damage on my '69 Mustang (self inflicted, don't ask) before Musclepalooza this weekend.

Not too many other car people around us.

Nope, I am the only one...There are 3 other guys who "work on their cars" ... that measn they buy crap from a catalog and tape, glue, bolt, velcro the stuff to the car, big rims, lights, chrome stuff...to each their own....Only 3 at work..out of 56 mechanics you would think there would be a car guy or two..just me and 2 ricer guys...We talk...the one has a fast 240, it really is a blast to ride in, he drifts and drags it...good times...

I have a very enthusiastic wealthy BMW entusiast just on the other side of the street.Ha sells and imports them from Germay.Old and new cars.M3-3,0csi and 5 and 3 series. He doesnt understand my car interest, but i am not sure i understand his either.

He cant wrench on them.I have to help him sometimes to do the most elementary things :D.

An old friend with an 56 Chevy in old street race style lives some more houses away, but we are in and out of our garages nearly every day.

Another friend lives a kilometer away, and have a 34 Ford Sedan Delivery that we are doing some work to these days.Up and running today for the first time since early fifties ;D.

Down the street is Rick...he has a 10 sec '05 street driven vette. Next street over is Alan....He has a 8 sec suzuki gsxr on n2o. He also builds bikes as a business out of his garage (Dragnbike.com). There are also numerous other street rod and musclecar guys in my 'hood.

Re: Car Junkies in the neighborhood

There are a few here, I don't talk with them regularly or hang out with them outside the bar scene. Most car people here are at extremes, either a show car or a beat dirt track car, where as I'm into daily driver see the street 7 days a week type cars (I was going to say Muscle cars but mine are just cars with big engines :P).

One guy in town had his 9 second Nova featured in Car Craft sometime between 1989 and 1991. He showed me the magazine, and we share pictures and video from the Silver State races since we watch from two different places.

Another guy got pissed at me after telling me for 9 months he was going to build this 13:1 compression engine for dirt track racing (bringing parts into the bar to show me even!) and I finally told him to build the engine already and quit telling me about it. He won't be building it anytime soon as a week later he shot two people at another bar and is sitting in jail :

One of our short range planners is a car guy (has a late 60's Vette), we BS back and forth at work which is cool, but we haven't done anything beyond that and one of our long range planners has a '67 Camaro 327 4-spd he bought new and is too afraid these days to drive it anywhere : let alone hot rod it, or anything else.

              So I travel A LOT ;D
              Escaped on a technicality.

Re: Car Junkies in the neighborhood

We have a few minor car "junkies" nearby but all are 4-wheeler types (we do a little of that also but not serious). The town in general has some pretty nutso hot rodders...as in the guy who has a Mopar flag over his house (he's great, and owns a small beer company too...the perfect friend). The biggest junkies around all know each other, my best bud has twice the crap I do.

we live in BFB and there are several nice cruisers within a 15 mile radius and one 65 PU stroker that is way cool - - - - lotsa bikes up and down the remote hwy we live on and every now and then a street machine will come by but not often

lots of mean machines in some of the towns that are 45 minutes from us but not much close by

Re: Car Junkies in the neighborhood

Our next door neighbor has a cobra Mustang and goes racing with us, how lucky is that?

Our other neighbors are cool and we have lawnmower races, hahaha.

Just met a guy down the road with a '71 Duster, he stopped by the other day and I talked him into going to Mopar Day at Milan Dragway to race it for the first time this Saturday. Our garage seems to be the local hangout for the car guys.

Another friend down the road has a '71 Demon and an original unrestored Superbird, it's a driver and has the scratches and rust spots to prove it. It's so cool to see one that's not perfect, I love it.

AND to top it off we have an Auto Value parts store just a half mile away that is staffed by gearheads, it's awesome. They are mostly Chevy guys and tease me whenever I come in with yet another broken Mopar part. ;D

We live in a tiny town out in the boonies too, so I think we have it pretty good.

Everyone around me sucks, there is my one buddy that lives here in the apartments that has a reall '64 Malibu SS, but it's in need of a total resto. And there's another guy a couple houses down the street that has a '71 or '72 Chevelle that he's hoping to get running some day. But other than those to guys I'm the only one that actually keeps the neighborhood filled with sounds of automotive enjoyment. Like in the months to come my neighbors will get to listen to the music of the air board sander, making it's music as it makes my cars as smooth as glass. And then shortly after that they will get to listen to the music of 8 cylinders of raw big block power erupting through the night. ;)

Yes it's cool to the lone wolf. ;D
