600 cc nowadays is way more powerful than the 650 of old.. I'm sure are faster and quicker than many 750's... Used to say for 2 cylinders, 650 minimum for hwy riding, 3 cyl can be 650 and bigger, then 4 cyl 750 cc and up... I rode several 650-4's but at 230-245 weight, they seem to top out at 70-75, same for the V-45's .. Wanna be able to run away from the asshats that like to tailgate..

Kawasaki doesn't report HP anymore (or at least back in 2007 when I got the bike), but it was reported the '07 ZZR600 made around 115-120HP. I forget the bike weight, but I want to say around 450lbs.
      Escaped on a technicality.

The H2 750 triple 2 stroke is very light.. Forget the weight but 73 hp.. Can't imagine those nbrs you are riding with that much hp.. 850 Yaaha Special triple was around 65 hp (guestimated) Loved that bike.. Didn't have that dreaded shaft drive jack up most shaftys had those years.

This is pretty close to the numbers I see on the 1000cc Yamaha FZ1 I want...Cant find torque numbers on these bikes without really digging...On a big V twin Harley you cant find horsepower numbers, they only push the torque....

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue

              well said Bob!

if you havent riden a modern sportbike in the last decade,...oh man,...your missing out.

i love my american muscle but the super high RPM bikes are wicked.

from what i've heard, the FZ1 is basically a slightly detuned R1. a lil bit over 150 HP! if i bought another new bike,...i'd buy an FZ1. more power than most people could use, nice riding posistion for long rides, etc.

              hell ya!

I wouldn't be surprised if it was lighter... those are about the same numbers my last bike ('99 CBR600 F4) had depending on who you read at the time. I remember the Yamaha R6 having a 14,500 redline and being bummed mine was redlined at 13,500.. pfffft. The R6 was a little bit more full on race bike I thought. The F4 was still pretty comfortable. What I truly appreciated about that bike and most of the modern junk is they are really pretty forgiving. You can do some stupid stuff and they don't get pissed off and throw you on the ground. They are really "flickable" and I think the term "Retina detaching brakes" is accurate.

I would have probably been happier with the bike if it had a little less cam. The bike before it was an CBR1100xx and I got spoiled to the torque pretty quickly. I kind of wished I had bough the Bandit 1200 instead of the 600... they were not far apart in price. Totally different animals though... the Bandit is better matched to my getting old now riding style.

oh - the harley thing... 131" mills making 135 foot pounds and 130 hp are nothing to laugh at. I'm not a fan of the wheels on this but I'd ride it anyway.

kinda circles back to the same "where am I gonna put that sinfully ugly license plate" issue.

I'm surprised nobody on here has ever tried the Ducati monster, nimble like a sport bike withe a V-twin that makes a Harley seem like a brigs and Stratton side valver. There are a few similar Japanese v- twins street fighters that are great as well. I absolutely love a strong "modern" V-twin singing north of 10,000 rpm, with a huge midrange hit. I had an RC-51 track bike for a few years, that was crazy. The quality and engineering of that motorcycle was second to none. I did custom tune on it, and I have the Dyno sheet around here somewhere.

One of the coolest bosses I ever had was my first boss who was the Service Department Manager at the dealership I worked at. He wore a full suit and tie every day to work, and he often showed up to work on a Harley. Not an over the top one, but just a nice good looking one. Then one day he shows up, still wearing the suit and tie, on a Buell, lol.

My wifes HD Deluxe is a 103 and that thing pulls hard when you romp on it....96Lbft I think...its a big heavy pig, over 800lbs but she scoots along nicely...its funny when she tries to pull on me when we ride tho...I just blip the throttle and walk away...then I will slow down and waver her up like she is taking too long...that pisses her off LOL

My best friend and riding buddy has a 13 Roadglide with the 103, stock dyno'd 76hp, 88tq, cams, aircleaner and exhaust got it to 97hp and 111tq. He texted me this, I just responded "still not enough".

My current r6 is alot funner to ride than the r1 and cbr1000rr because I can accelerate after the apex without the front coming up.

I'm not a fan of newer street bikes being streetfighters at all. But I love some of the older bikes turned into bobbers.

maybe not yall's style, but its 121hp when stock, I havent dyno'd it so i'm unsure of what its putting down. I gave $1900 for it with 20k miles

These two (especailly the CBR) were the most butt-puckering things I've ever been on. The CBR just had cams, exhaust and tune but would get down.

I'd say my British bike can hang right in with the Jap bikes but I'm too busy trying to figure out why the turn signals are wired to the starter.
