I thought of my dads friend, survived a charger wreck.. looked like that one in photo.
giant of a man. The hip surgeries etc, all got special attention, bones..
they had to cut him out from the mess.
burned from the engine, that came through the firewall.
the legend of it is that he was talking and awake.
its gonna hurt, might not.. whatever the blessed path brings.
I found a subaru wreck, my model of car..a pole right in the middle of the dash, still standing...
the engine was designed to get knocked underneath the car.
From that photo, I made a big pitch stop.. that is the swivel to knock it under.
one only can learn from the wrecks...theories go away then.

Yep.....modern crash standards are only to a certain speed. I'm thinking 65 or 75 mph? Anyways, a modern car that stays intact at the speeds it was designed to.......ends up looking just like that charger when crashed at 100mph.

I believe kinetic energy increases at the square of the velocity..........doesn't take much of a speed increase to dramatically increase the resulting deceleration..............
If you're old enough to remember the ESV (experimental safety vehicle) programs from the early seventies, what you saw was three-ton cars with very long, bulky crumple zones in front, as well as rollover structure and the first airbags...and they were hitting for passenger survival at half-of that 100 mph. I don't think anyone believes it's possible to slow a live human body from a hundred-to-nothing in the space that a practical car can have hanging out in front of it. Anybody here wanna calculate the g-force of, say, a six-foot-long stop from that speed? Me no arithmatic so gud.

You've got all of this and all of that, and a mashed flat Charger at 100 mph....does that mean it hit a concrete wall at 100 mph? But if I understand entry-level physics correctly, that's exactly the same inertia/energy as when two equally-weighted things hit head-on, each going 50 mph, that's a 100-mph impact.
There's no substitute for restraint in any incident. I blissfully drove VW bugs hundreds of thousands of miles for more than a decade with no seat belts in the car, young and oblivious to the fact that if there was a bad collision I'd be tossed against the dash/steering wheel or ejected somewhere out of the car like a rag doll. Just like a motorcycle, but hard stuff to hit against on your way out in a few milliseconds.

Agreed, at that speed. I guess I'm jacked because there are entirely too many news reports from around here, nearly daily about a one-car crash where the reporting officer said a seat belt would have made a difference. Ran off the road, rolled over, whatever, ejected.....DRT....is that actually natural selection at play?
Fighter pilots have special flight suits to help alleviate those stresses ... Fast acceleration or quick direction changes are the exact same thing, just a different vector.
