Got the bottom side of the car in primer and seam-sealed. (Don't look too close - not proud of my work...but it is sealed...?) I plan to spray the bottom with a light coat of bed liner. The areas in black are mounting points. They will not get coated so I hit them with some spray paint instead.
In the meantime got the transmission lines routed and the driver side exhaust built. It's like the factory made this access hole with our project in mind...hehehe
I could not get the battery cable and transmission lines inside the frame with one access hole without a big fight, so I made another in front of the crossmember. This worked out great and will hopefully reduce any unnecessary abrasion.
This required some creativity but it all clears. Jumped up and down on the rearend and still have around an inch of clearance over the housing. Also added some more bracing to the crossmember and gussets to the frame. I'm dangerous with a welder and tubing! hehehe. Probably overkill, but I want to make the back half strong for towing.
Pretty happy how it all turned out. Now to finish welding it up, paint, and try to do the same thing on the passenger side...

My friend came over yesterday to help on the '40 before it it heads out for bodywork. While he was here, we got distracted...decided to cut the Falcon hood for the new tunnel ram.
I wanted to make sure everything worked well and I was committed to cutting the hood. After driving around all summer...it's a go! What else would you do to get ready for winter?! hehe

When you are a hack like me, you need to get creative on ways to fabricate. The wife keeps asking me why I don't just go out and get the equipment I need? I tell her than I can't afford to build the car...anyone else feel this way? Maybe when this car is done I'll take a break and get the right stuff. For now it's a sawzall, vise, and old parts....

Working on the transmission and brake lines.
Had to move the right side bracket to clear the transmission temperature sensor. Easier to do it now - right?
Mocking up the rear brakes and hoses. Mounts are next.
It's gonna hurt taking all of this back apart...
Meanwhile....at the body shop...working on the back side of the car. New strut rods are in place for the trunk lid. No more guillotine...and it raises by itself!

While the bodywork is getting done, I'm trying to finish up the chassis. With it stripped down, seems every time I turn around, I'm finding something else to be done. Hoping to get it ready for powdercoat in the next month or so?
With the plan to pull a small (?) travel trailer as we tour the country with this car, I've been working on the trailer hitch. Yep - I've gone full-on overkill, but I'll need to install a 14" extension so I want to make sure it's stout. It will be removable...I hope!
Clears the gas tank...woo hoo!

I totally agree. I remember an instructor in school telling us engineers should design hitches. You can always tell a hitch made by a machinist, it would weigh 400 lbs! heheOriginally posted by DanStokes View Post
