  • new project 1955 210 post

i picked up my new project about a week ago. its a 55 210 post. a friend had it for awhile and never did anything with it. body, floorpans, trunk seems to be in great shape and doesnt need much. the interior will need replaced. dash is in great shape, tho. has new gas tank, brakes and shocks. someone had swapped in an s10 7.5 rear, which will hafta go (i tend to want to race). my plan is a great cruiser/fri. night drags/street car. something i can hop in and drive anywhere and run high 6s (1/8)/high 10s (1/4), too. wanting to shoot it satin black with all the chrome back on it. if i can afford it, a 6.0LS. efi engine. i already have a 383 lt1 i could swap in it, tho. also have a TCI th/350 trans. and convertor. http://s808.photobucket.com/albums/z...=111010187.jpg
i'll try to get some better pics this week.

Should be fun! I guess there's no motor in it now.

Do you have any plans for the rearend? probably a 9" is in your future. Might want to redo the springs to make more room for tires too. Don't need much, leafs under the frame rails work ok, although the rear needs to be a couple inches narrower than stock too

            thanks for the reply's, guys.
good info squirrel. always dug your car. it has 8" rallys on it, now. which seem to fit, well. would i need to move the springs in to fit a 28x9 or 28x10?
i know where a 8.5 10 bolt is for $100 with 3.08s for late 70s t/a, camaro. also thought about a foxbody 8.8 swap. theyre cheap and posi. i think theyre a couple inches narrower than the stock unit.
            wanting 3.08- 3.42 gears.
dont want another 9". had one in my old t/a a few yrs ago. it slowed the car down .15 hundredths in the 8th. it also broke twice. the 2nd time, the pinion and support came forward wiping out the drive shaft and trans. (was using a stock pinion support)

                Thanks!

You'd have to do some measuring, but I think you'll have trouble fitting a 10" sticky tire in there without moving something.

I haven't broke my 9" yet, I guess I'm lucky? center is stock with a locker in it, housing and axles are pretty good stuff from Summers from the early 90s.

I think the 70s F body 10 bolt is close to the width of the stock rearend, 255s on 8" ralleys just fit with that setup. You really need to do some measuring, they're all a bit different and if you don't move things then anything you do with an 8" wheel is gonna be tight.

                  Sweet mother of baderasserness!

I have a '55 rear axle I was going to put into our '54 and changed my other mind - with Seth's help - and got a S10 axle that already has 3.42 and posi.

I can measure the '55 axle if you need info off that - as it compares to what you have in there now.

I'm trying to sell the '55 axle too - but you're going to want a 12 bolt or 9" I'm guessing.

I can't wait to see this thing come together - if you don't like '55 chevies - you're not a hot rodder at heart!
There's always something new to learn.

my dad's old 55 broke the stock rear twice (car ran high 7s in the 8th). not sure the size. but, i dont think their real strong. thanks for any info guys.
after pricing interior online, i know why alot of guys have custom done. $1800-2000 then have it installed ?!?!?!

Re: new project 1955 210 post

picked up an '01 6.0 liter LS with 40k miles, this evening. its going in the 55. very clean. got it for $1k and the guy had bought a new edlebrock carb'd intake and a new msd ignition control module for it already. also came with a new set of headers.
already sold the carb'd intake for $250. have the msd controller and msd harness for sale for $250. i'd rather have efi. also came with the stock intake, t/b, injectors, rails, sensors, starter, coil packs, flexplate and water pump.
