  • Junior's Insane '36 Dodge Truck

I am starting this build thread for my nephew-in-law.
He's busy as hell at his job currently and with a young family
his free time is spent.....well the pics speak for themselves.

He's known as Junior here on BS.....he got that name when
he was building my headers for the 409.
My buddies said he looked like
    a young Junior Johnson.

This is his '36 1 1/2 ton Dodge truck.
He bought it for $75 from his shop teacher.

This kid has skils....if he can't find a part, he'll make it.

Does all his own engine work.....the motor is a Caddy.

I'll let him chime in here and give all the details about
    the project.

    This truck is insane.

Re: Junior's Insane '36 Dodge Truck

Thanks Monk for starting this thread. I had good intentions of doing this but don't have the time. Monk got me hooked on Bangshift and I must say it is a cool site. Anyways I will add in details of my build when I can. But for now I will give a quick run down. Truck is a 36 dodge 1 1/2 ton cab that I bought from my high school welding teacher for 75 bucks. It took me 12 years to talk him out of it. Built the chassis out of 2x3 3/16" wall mild steel in about 8 hours. It has 15 inches of z in the rear and 6 in the front. This was gonna be a typical hotrod build but then it got a little out of hand. Way to much thinking. The mill is a 74 caddy 500 which i picked because it was already around 400hp from the factory. The motor was built to run a drag class around my area called king of the street. I chopped the cab and did the suicide doors myself. I also kept the factory grill shell to use. Anyways that is all for tonight. Thanks

Any class that truck is in - RULES!

Way cool project. Keep Uncle Monk on updates - ya gotta delegate sometimes.

Folks, notice the fancy spray booth. This what I've been telling y'all.

I built this on the 07 outlaw rules that the local track was using. Bad part was that since the turnout was low they started changing the rules every year. So now I am out classed. But it will real fun on the street. Dan thanks for the comments. Yeah the spray booth is all I ever need. I have actually sprayed cars in dirt floor chicken coops. JUst wet the floor to keep dust down and go to town.

No it isn't a crack just from sitting on the work bench and sweating. The weather has been changing 30 degrees each direction lately and crap is rusting and oxidizing like crazy.

Well I told ya Junior builds his own parts.

He'll have to chime in here and explain
                    what he made.

I'll bet he's hell on makin muffins.

Re: Junior's Insane '36 Dodge Truck

Well the pics of the casting is a throttle body adapter for my efi. It fits 2 90mm throttle bodies onto a 6-71 jimmy blower. Yeah I could have bought something that was built out of billet for this, but wanted to try and keep a gasser/altered theme. Which back in the day those guys would make their own parts. So i decided to make this part. My dad made the pattern and I poured it. After casting it I machined it to fit the injectors and throttle bodies. So that is the story of this part. X3 on the use of the caddy made good hp and torque stock so i thought it would be a good candidate. Plus I didn't want the same old sbc or bbc mill.

This is going to be one to watch, nice work. When I was a 15 yr. old kid working in a garage I saw my first 500 inch Caddy. Didn't know they made them that big then, thought the guy was B.S.'ing me, lol.
