Hehehe...... Yeah, I don't think it'll go much further than the road in front of the shop for burnout videos.... Dry rot scares me. Its so hard to tell when its just cosmetic or structural.
But I was always curious if I could stuff 15x10's in the back! All of the cheap wheels have 6" positive and that looked to be a tight fit! They do fit pretty well, the only problem I have is the rear suspension has soooooo much travel I think there is a posibility of rubbage with loaded trunk and big whoops type dip/bumps.....
But it looks cool!
Now I just have to find that used set of 6126 Hooker headers to have enough power to spin them 275/60's!!
Couple of updates on the Lincoln!
I found a set of beat 6126 Hooker super comps on ebay that should fit!!
Also, the second carb I want try is a small 600cfm Edelbrock. I realize that it is probably too small, but I was curious what the effect on throttle response would be. After reading a couple of articles on venturi boosters, I wondered if some of the sharpness could be improved by increasing the velocity through my straight leg boosters with a smaller carb. http://www.popularhotrodding.com/tec...ech/index.html
I have heard that the 750 Edelbrock is based off the 600 carb body and significant reductions had to be made to the venturi to get the 750cfm flow.
I'm not sure how much top end I will loose, but it is out of breath at 4300-4500rpm with the 750 carb. (Maybe the headers will help change that?) Plus it may kind of act a rev limiter.... The father in-law never lifts for anything.....
Pic of pile O parts.....
The father in-law scattered the spider gears in the 9" on the way over to my house for the header install.... Damn, more work for me!! But better to do it now than on power tour!!
After getting the rear almost straightened out.. We started test fitting the headers.
The drivers side required us to have the car almost 2 feet in the air and jack the motor as high as it would go with both motor mounts loose. Even with the motor jacked up, the father in-law had to use a pry bar to push the motor towards the pass side to get the header slid in there. Things are close, but they seem to fit pretty well. From what I hear, there aren't too many headers that fit super well.
The passenger side you can throw up in there with the motor dead flat in its mounts!! I think I will have to clearance one tube around the idler pitman arm. But other than that, it looks pretty good. Starter clearance looks almost better than the manifolds. I am concerned that header heat may make a mess out of the AC box. I think some of the adhesive reflective insulation might help?
The collectors seem to be close to the trans cross member and outside the cross member exhaust humps. I haven't quite figured out what to do there. After I get the headers fully bolted up I can get some better measurements.
I was thinking of starting with these headman hook-ups and cut and paste them together. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
I may have to also cut back the collector some like TrickFlowRick did. http://www.460ford.com/forum/showthr...highlight=6126
But all in all, I think its doable. I need to spend a little more time finding out how to protect things from header heat. (definately need to move some brake lines around...)
I know its just a budget bomber, but we're having fun!
That's a cool project - I kinda like those style Ford/Lincolns. Buddy of mine had a '73 Montego GT that we used to beat the snot outta during our high school years.
That was a strange era in US car building. HUGE exteriors and really not all that big inside. I had a couple of Tornadoes - '73 and a '75. Smooth, quiet, hauled the heck out of a 2 horse trailer. They were neat cars. Looks like you and the Dad-in-law are having fun with it. How do you shell a 9" in a more or less stock Lincoln? He must be an ENTHUSIASTIC driver!
Great pics and work. That 600 will run great while cruising around, but will fall flat at 4000 rpm. I bet the nose will literally fall over for lack of air needed.

Yeah, he has a thing for these cars.... I don't think you'd believe how much attention we get everywhere we go except a traditional car show. And ENTHUSIASTIC isn't the word! Right after we got it running, after 10 years of storage, he spun the tires hard enough it couldn't shift out of low before he floated the valves! Did he lift? Nope, he held it there till it shifted and quieted it down.... He's a riot. I just can't ever let him drive anything with real power....
Oh, this is the second rear he's broken like this...... I think the open rear can't handle the power only being transmitted to one wheel.(Plus the 5000lbs without us in it...) If it could spin them, I'd swap in the trac-loc and 3.50 gears sitting on the floor. Still might, after power tour.

It will be interesting to see, thats why i think the 600 might be a good idea. Sharpen the throttle response and limit his top RPM.
All of the carb calc's seem to say 5000rpm and 90% volumetric efficency equal 600cfm. It will be an easy swap, tape a vacuum gauge to the windshield and see what it really needs.
I got a little more done...
The collectors were too close to the trans crossmember so I had them cut back 2.5"s and rewelded.
I also had the headman hook-ups shorteded and rewelded to help make them more adjustable. (they are very thin though.... I should have known better when they were only 22 bucks for the pair...)
I also had to clearance the #6 tube. I think it would have banged on the engine cross member when the motor torqued over then came back to the resting position. Thank goodness these are used headers, I would have been sick to take a hammer to new 600 dollar headers.....
Oh, I also bought a used car to replace my 97 30th anniversary Z28.
Plans are cold air intake, Evolution canned tune, shifter, rear suspension pieces, rear lowering springs and KR mufflers and H pipe.
Thanks guys, I think going to work this summer will be a whole lot more fun!!!
Well, I've had a small set back on the Lincoln. Even with the collectors cut back, there is no way to fit prebent hook-up pipes through the trans crossmember exhaust humps without cutting and welding a bunch of pieces of pipe together.... I need to reevaluate tomorrow and maybe build or modify the crossmember. I think hook up pipes could be built, but I think modifing the crossmember will take the same amount of effort and end up with a better flowing exhaust.
