    Re: Timing Chain noise?

    Crankshaft endplay?

Its pretty tight wish i could give an exact number but i cant remeber the specs.

If it was bad enough you would see a lot of play like 3/16 inch or so then the counterweights could hit the block every now and then and make noise.

if it is a chevy it could also be a fuel pump arm with a broken return spring. assuming stock pump on block

ok then i would have to go with previous post from others. put it back together with new chain and see if the noise is gone. If not run it temporarily without accessories belt and see if noise goes away.

                Cool,

The only other things I can think of are pistons (cracked skirts , too small or carbon on tops), sometimes a broken acc bracket. Most things you already covered rod brgs, flywheel , balancer etc.

Let is know what you find.

                thanks,

                        just a thought...
maybe the oil pump rod has some slop in it.

                              Lubrication,

If the engine is tilted way down in the back it may not get oil from valley drainage and front of oil pan. It seems to me that i always see about an inch or 2 in the front of the pan when i pull a timing cover off. The crank gear picks up oil there and splashes chain for lubrication, plus 2 front lifter valley drains. I dont remember any pressurized oil for the chain but i may be wrong on that one. Maybe someone here has better memory than me.
