OK. I am trying to get the drivers side CV axle out of the transaxle one the '86 and its stuck fast. I went from the normal prybar to the BF prybar to the BMF prybar being being beat on by the BMFH and it still won't come out. I am at my wits end with thing. Any ideas?

Re: Stuck CV axle
Cant remember if I ever worked on one...just general advice, a snap ring can screw your day up....usually with the effort you expended it should have came out....Originally posted by TCalso boost will make the cam act smaller -

I thought they fell right out for some odd reason...
but this may be the bigger 1.9 getting hammered on...
I also have a stuck 1986, years has alot to do with the problem... I am literally going to cut it with a grinder off the darn rear end..
the ford should not be this difficult...there is a forgetful something in this equation.Previously boxer3main

Re: Stuck CV axle
smack it from behind with a brass drift or a big chisel and a good sized hammer
I have a puller adapter for my slide hammer
you need that technique for toyotas tooComment

Re: Stuck CV axle
No snap rings. It should be held in by a single circlip. Dad and I both prying on it with big prybars can't get it to budge. My only other option is to cut to the cv boot and then split the trans to separate the inner hub. That also means I need to acquire a spindle press to remove and reinstall the shaft in the steering knuckle.Originally posted by A/FuelCant remember if I ever worked on one...just general advice, a snap ring can screw your day up....usually with the effort you expended it should have came out....
What do you mean by "behind"?Comment

Re: Stuck CV axle
So you hit it with a drift through the transaxle case pushing it out the other side?
That's a great trick if you can make it work with the space constraints at hand.

Re: Stuck CV axle
I had an excort that broke both ears off the block for the trans dowell pins , shattered the flex plate
had to cast iron weld the ears back on so we could wholesale the car

Re: Stuck CV axle
The tool reminds me of a tuning fork... slips over the diff. pin. As for room, if your worried about room on an Escort, you dont want to work on a contour or probe! :oReading , Pa
