my daughters 93 Civic Del Sol

this thing is driving me nuts.

on her way to school this morning, it started stumbling, running rough...

we went to get it tonight, i started it, and hell yeah, this thing runs like ass. feels like it has a dead miss, or 2 wires are crossed.

made sure plug wire connections were good, injector connectors were good.

started it up again, still runs like crap.

but.. start it up to limp it home, get driving it, and it stumbles really hard, like it was gonna die. out of habit i gunned the gas to keep it from dieing. and poof the damn thing smooths out, and runs like a champ.

    wtf??

no codes, it has plenty of gas, and i didnt change anything.

ideas on where to start looking???

    thanks in advance guys

i should add, that it has had cap/rotor wires plugs withing the last 6 months.

    this was just totally random.

i am going out to drive it again, to see if i can get it to repeat.

I'll see if I can get my youngest boy on the phone. He has a ton of experience with these little units. Me - I got nothin' - outside of the usual "check everything" advise. Ben will know if there's a common issue with these.

Cap, rotor, wires, and plugs. That's what they do when the ignition is wearing out. Get to it sooner rather than later, or you'll be replacing the expensive ICM as well! (ignition control module, inside the distributor).

Check the spark plug wire routing.

We used to have a blast messing with our friends in high school by popping their hood, and swapping a wire or two. Looks normal if you don't know the correct firing order.

              How devious are her friends?
Yes, I'm a CarJunkie... How many times would YOU rebuild the same engine before getting a crate motor?

i did replace the ignition coil before christmas... changed the battery and that some how killed the coil. wonder if i should have done the ICM at that time.

i did cap rotor, wires and plugs when i replaced the ignition coil, since you gotta pull the cap and rotor to get to the stupid thing. with the crap weather blowing through tonight, it sits waiting until saturday.

the thing that gets me, is it comes out of the rough running.

so, on hold until saturday afternoon.

i am sure to have more questions.

as for devious friends, she is a 17 yr old cheerleader. dude, teenage girls are freaking vicious. back stabbing phsyco maniacs, but ive never heard of anyone messing with a car.

                thanks again fellas....

the dist cap had cracked, and the inside of the cap was wet. put another new cap on it, made sure not to go gorilla on it when i put it back on. the thing runs like a champ again.

not even sure how it got a crack in it, but it was small and on the bottom side... strange.

oh well, its fixed and Kass thinks im a genius.

shhhhhh, what she doesnt know, wont hurt her!!!
