Yes, I'm a CarJunkie... How many times would YOU rebuild the same engine before getting a crate motor?

I say the TH350, I know my Trany guy isn't afraid to put them behind big blocks.........

And on that note, when I picked up my trany I asked him what gear I should be in while doing a burnout at the track, his response was to start in first gear and then shift to second and do the burnout in second, though he said if you really need to you can shift into drive.......

Most automatics need to be shifted during the burnout from low to a 2nd to get the wheel speed up. At the Frank Hawley school where the Super Gas cars are BBC Crate 572's with a glide and 5000+ tall, 14/32 tires, all burnouts were in 2nd gear only.

I voted for the 2004R because it has a lower first gear to get the tire spinning before the shift for lower power cars. For hogh pwer cars it doeasn't matter. Listen to your tranny builder's advice.

either.. it isn't the burn out that hurt either of them it's the fuild temps.. so better question is the cooler used...

Both should be done in high gear, (not overdrive)

You should not start out in low gear. You hurt stuff by sitting there just grinding on it. Get the RPM up to lock the converter in and in high gear to get a lot of wheel speed fast then come out easing up as you do. ( unless you want to do the John Force burnout) Should take about 4 to 7 seconds at most.

They are both 350 based transmissions .... roll out of the water and ease off. When they hook coming out of the box, they break parts .... the worst being the case.

I agree w/Jeff .... high gear (not O/D on the 700), let the wheelspeed do the work.

thats great in a reversed valvebody now standard shift auto matic....
most automatics your in 1st and 2nd, it be great to start in high (1 to 1) but most are not set UP that way ON THE STREET

Definitely an automatic of some sort. Most of the burnouts I've known THINK they can handle a manual transmission but they get all confused and are VERY prone to making a 1-4 shift. And you can forget about reverse.

I don't know about burnouts specifically but I can't imagine putting money into a non overdrive transmission unless your only going 1320 feet at a time.
There's always something new to learn.

So how on an automatic do you start in Second??.......You can't unless you have a manual valve body.......

And your right, my trans guy been doing this over 20 years and he works on some serious rides.......Also if something happens I can tell him I did it just the way you told me to do it...........
