  • One of THOSE ideas.

Don't exactly know where to put this. I've got a late 80's New Yorker with a 2.2 turbo. The body is in pristine condition. It quit one day several years back, so the (unprintable) kid decided to "fix" it. Well, he did. Why he pulled the gas tank escapes me. Why he pulled the dash is even more unfathomable. 'Nuff of that. Anyhoo, I suppose it could be brought back, but I don't know why. I'm thinking there might be other uses for the drive train.

It'd be a hoot to stuff it in the Trooper, but I think that is a pipedream. Thoughts at the moment are to build up a cage, put some running gear together and use it for a goat. Sort of a slam around, putt around all-purpose country work/play machine, or maybe build up a peppy snow blower. Gotta be some use for it.

I got a sand rail if you need one, will part out the chassis and drive line by themselves.

Anybody remember the first gas crisis of '73? When there was a movement towards Pinto motored and V-6 powered t-buckets and track T's ?? Those things were supposedly knocking down better mpg than stock bodied whatever the engines came out of and were quicker or faster??

I always, in the back of my mind, wanted to take a Nova 4 cyl from the 60's, add a 5 speed manual and put it in a bucket or something equally light... Some circle track cars use those motors (used to? ) and had like 200 hp easily NA... Updated version would be FI and turbo'd Prolly never be more than a dream.

I like the way you guys think. I've often wondered about building something like that in front wheel drive.

Nah, the rears are itty bitty drums. The body is pretty sweet except for a bit of exposure. No rust or anything like that.

                        Still Thinking

A little roadster type vehicle sounds like a hoot. Light enough for this engine to shine. I have a four hundred engine that needs rebuilt. I think I'll stick that together with the 4x4 gear out of the old 78 and make that into a knock around goat. The idea is to have something that's a bit of fun that will plow snow, pull people out of ditches, haul material and just generally be useful. Maybe get a bit of that, "What's he up to this time?" from the neighbors. It will never see a public road. Mostly it's something for fun, trying out a few ideas and practicing some skills. I am also collecting up bits and pieces to rebuild the Corvair trike I built back in the seventies. Everything is strictly low-budget around here, but I have more fun than a normal person.
