!993 Dodge Dakota club cab. 5.2 auto. Needs shoes! What's on there now: P235 70R16. I want LT for the pressure and load difference. Country boy, you know? Even little trucks work for their supper. I can get a better deal on LT215 75R16 than LT235 70R16 around here. The winter tires are Hankook P205 75R15. Both sets are cast rims. I seldom haul much weight in the winter. Any opinions on those 16 inch compared to dropping back to 15? They seem okay.

I had Michelins on my Dakota and they were EXCELLENT. Quiet on the road, good wet weather traction, and the price looks a LOT better given that they hold up for a TON of miles (I think I had 50K on mine when I sold the truck and they still had lots of life left).
Mine were the "Michelin Michelin" style (that's what the white letters said). There are some others that say "Michelin LTX (or something like that)".

I just put on a set of General Grabbers a few months ago .... I think they call it the HTP (?) .... I love 'em and the were reasonably priced. It came down to these and the equivalent Cooper .... The Generals had a $100 mail in rebate.Whiskey for my men ... and beer for their horses!Comment

If you plan on keeping the truck for a while, I would spend the money on the Michelin LTX M/S-2. Available in many sizes... more in 16" than in 15".
The M/S-2 is just like the M/S ... I believe they are discontinuing the M/S.
They last a LONG time, are quiet, good in the rain and decent in mild off road use.

Do you mean 215 75 15? It's about an inch shorter... what's the load rating between the two? Probably 200 pounds gross limit between the two which adds up on a truck.
235 75 15 is about the same size as the 235 70 16 ... and because of the number of trucks using them, I'd guess they price out about the same. PLENTY of tire for a Dakota.
** come to think of it, the 235 70 16 is what I have on the Escape, I put Generals on it from Discount and at 40k in wear on them, I've been completely satisfied with them. They look to go about 60k or so. It's kind of a city tread though, if that influences your decision.Last edited by Beagle; July 17, 2013, 01:09 PM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.Comment

i think Dan put on Grabber Hts tire...
i checked 3 of my 4 tire suppliers, and a "LT" 215-75-16 doesnt exist. you can get an extra load, but not a heavier ply "LT".
to get a true LT, gotta go 225-75-16, which will be a tad taller than the 235-70-16 and a whopping ton bigger than the 205-75-15.
215-75-16 load capacity varies, but are all pretty much 1880 lbs
225-75-16 10 ply carries around 2700 lbs(break the truck)
235-70-16 4 ply but the lightest load i saw was 1990 lbs ( this tire would look best, imho, if that matters)
btw, 235-70-16 is 28.9 inches tall
205-75-15 is 27Last edited by 1badmonkey; July 18, 2013, 03:02 PM.CharlesComment
