  • Trailer hitch suggestions

While I wait for responses to e mails and PMs that have been sent about trailer width, I would like to get suggestions for a hitch for my 70 Chevelle. I've seen some on Google, but you guys would know the best way I'm sure. Thanks.

I had to make mine because I couldnt find any. You should have lots of choices, or if you have a parachute mount you may be able to use that.

Just keeping my options open. Last pass was 11.50s, so the trailer hitch would/could be a chute mount. I haven't made any passes in the 9s but maybe with the new setup.

The chute is behind the fold down LP, the receiver is below the cross brace, is there a hole in the rear valance? I still have my stock, sumped tank with the filler neck. I'm getting ideas, thanks

Walt Renolds told me he got his at U Haul. So I called and got one too. Took some time, had it shipped to a local u haul outlet. They build them as you order. Built good too. I had to modify mine as I put a sump in my oem tank, had to split the forward brace and go on each side of sump and up. Only problem, 40#

U-Haul hitch works for me as a chute and trailer combo

I built mine into the rear structure of the car as I have a sunped stock tank too. I used small receiver tube so it doubles as parachute mount. I had to replace the stock stamped sheet metal cross member with a 2'X1.5" .125 wall tube to get enough strength and torsional bending resistance. It made it through Drag Week this year so I think its good.

This shows the folded sheet metal part before I replaced it.

The height is right for a parachute mount at approximatly the vertical COG. Much higher than the typical trailer hitch which required a modified tongue on the trailer.

I just have a cheapo bumper mount class 1 because my trailer is small.
