Jim, the pictures are older, I reworked the tail pipe mount so that the converted tire part of the standard hanger slides on like you suggest. The muffler hangers welded to the turn up are in a tight location using a welded tab in lieu of the orginal bolt on factory hanger. I tried a simple hook but they wouldn't stay engaged. While the car is part for the next couple months I'm going to try an come up with a better solution. I need to see a bunch of the factory pin mount bushings to find some that would work in the tight space, any suggestions?Originally posted by squirrel View Postbill have you thought about using the modern pin type mounts, into a rubber bushing, instead of bolt on hangars?Drag Week 2006 & 2012 - Winner Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated - R/U 2007 Broke DW '05 and Drag Weekend '15 Coincidence?Comment

This is what I like to use... gives you good side to side rigidity and allows for the exhaust
to grow in length... a full size car at normal exhaust temps the end of the exhaust will
grow about 3/4" in length
EDIT
I set the length of the rod so its just forward of vertical and
cut the rod so I have enough to roll it 1/4 way around the pipe
and weld it on... that way its just past vertical when the exhaust
is hotLast edited by MR P-BODY; May 30, 2013, 10:27 AM.Comment

That is a fascinating bit of information regarding the linear expansion of the exhuast system. I've seen the effects of that in the past but not made the connection to changes I should have been looking at to allow for it or take advantage of it.Drag Week 2006 & 2012 - Winner Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated - R/U 2007 Broke DW '05 and Drag Weekend '15 Coincidence?Comment

Glad that it might be of some helpOriginally posted by CDMBill View PostThat is a fascinating bit of information regarding the linear expansion of the exhuast system. EDIT
I dont care for the so called modern hangers... they allow
way to much movement in the side to side... the reason the
auto companies went to them is they are easy to assemble
on the line and they are cheap.. the stud that the rubber slips
onto is welded to the pipes and in most cases is welded to the
body so no tools are required in assembly... the one I showed
works very good and basically only allows fore and aft movement..
it does have some side to side but once its welded on the pipe
it eliminates most of itLast edited by MR P-BODY; May 31, 2013, 10:43 AM.Comment

when I work on customer cars when I build the exhaust or headers
Edit
I try to have a few on hand all the time... I usually weld a stud on the floor
or frame where I want the hanger but if you dont want to weld you can threw
bolt itLast edited by MR P-BODY; May 31, 2013, 11:58 AM.Comment
