Sturgis Camaro Rally 2014

Heading into the central Black Hills is the Shrine of Democracy, Mount Rushmore. Upon entering the memorial you pass through the Avenue of Flags before entering the viewing deck which is above the amphitheater. Then take the Presidential walk that meanders below the faces and leads to the Sculptures Studio. In the Sculptures Studio are the intended finished product and a model of what would have been the Hall of Records. And NO there are no hidden caves of corridors behind or inside the faces. As many times as I have been to Mount Rushmore this mountain carving still impresses me every time I see it. I am honored to have been able to share this time with some of our friends that this was their first time seeing Mt. Rushmore.

At the base of Mount Rushmore is Keystone, SD. Keystone is much more than the typical touristy trap, it is home to "Rushmore Taffy". I usually leave with two pounds of assorted flavors. (By the way) this is barely enough taffy for the 450 miles home.

We took the "Less Traveled" road, the Old Hill City Road connects Keystone to Hill City. This road is a lot of fun to drive and most tourists don't know it is there. This road twists around and follows the 1880 Train crossing the train tracks nineteen times. There are such beautiful areas along this road, if there is Paradise in South Dakota it would be along this road.

Once we arrived back in Hill City we made a stop at Prairie Berry Winery for a little taste testing. There were a lot of Camaros in the parking lot. My favorite wine this time were, Gold Digger and Blue Suede Shoes, good stuff!!

After leaving the winery in Hill City, we made our way back to Spearfish stopping at Lake Pactola, and a pass through Deadwood. Although the skies were beginning to look a bit nasty, we zipped through Boulder Canyon via Sturgis on our way back to the hotel. Shortly after the storm rolled in with 50 plus MPH winds and rain, that didn't dampen our spirits!! And to think this was only Day 1........

Friday started out interesting to say the least, a piece from the hotel came off during the high winds from overnight and put a hole in my enclosed trailer. After some discussion with the hotel front desk, and exchanging information, we started Day 2. Justin and Tiffany cruised with Nick and I and headed for Easy Riders Saloon in Sturgis for registration to pick up our "Stuff" and have breakfast. We watched a brand new off the show floor Z-28 make a few dyno pulls, met some friends and got to see some really detailed custom Camaros. Not too bad a start for Day 2.
