So it comes from the axle tube to the bottom of the bottle. The top hose is the vent tube / overflow?

As long as it's vented it should be fine. You might end up with the inside of Red smelling like gear oil.

Pulling the intake is not that bad on those engines. A dry could be the best idea ever! Unhook a bunch of wire connectors and you can snake the intake...
