    Re: Remy's '81 Mirada CMX

Just got off the phone with J., the guy who did the exhaust. Just from what I explained to him, he's got the feeling that at worst case scenario, that I may have rolled a bearing or something has happened that is allowing the crank to move. Tomorrow before I take it up to storage I'm gonna check crank play and see how much movement I get. I just got his quotes for a fresh 360 and 904 rebuild too, just in case.

Timing sucks on this. It really does.

OK, well some good news. Located a rebuilt 360, will get checked out. The car, on the trip up to storage, worked perfectly fine again. Whole 14 mile trip. I don't know what the hell, but the possessed engine has got to go.

I reread some of this thread, and one thing baffles me.....

You still have that LeanBurn crap on and let it try to function?

Might be trying to leanburn when you need to be rich burning, or at least stoich burning?

Whether you can or can't, you are usually right.<a href=http://www.bangshift.com/forum/image.php?type=sigpic&userid=1712&dateline=1303310375 target=_blank>http://www.bangshift.com/forum/image...ine=1303310375</a>

Yea - before swapping engines I'd be tempted to do a "leanburnectomy" and put an aftermarket carb on.

The exhaust swap...I'd give you the medical idea, but there's some things even I won't put on this website.

The only reason the LB was still on the car was b/c it functioned, rather well in fact. The plan all along has been to ditch it with a 360 swap. Right now consensus is still that the crank walked into the torque converter, so I've got all the excuse I need to ditch that shit and go with (for now) the worked Carter AFB off of the Diplomat, a stout intake, and a very worked 727 (or the 904 if I can't locate one). By next week I should know the condition of the new engine.

    Re: Remy's '81 Mirada CMX

Got some information about my new engine. It's definetly a 360, was pulled out of a truck in favor of a Slant Six for fuel economy, so I'm benefitting from somebody's guilt about the environment. Has no LB, is sporting an Edelbrock intake and has a "healthy cam"...I'm getting secondhand info, as I learn more I'll add. It's a stout runner, was only pulled so his truck could get better MPG. Sold to me, with trans, for $375. Stepdad is fronting the money up and I'll pay him back when I get settled and start getting the 9/11 GI bill payments again. Still looking at having the suspension done up there too by J. (exhaust guy). Not sure what the new trans is, but if it's a 727 I'll be dancing.

Good deal. It sounds like the car will be faster and definitly a lot more fun with the new motor.
