Either pinion needs more shims or ring gear needs to be closer to the pinion..depends...

Break in...yes needed... Heat cyclings actually..
Aftermarket gears recomend you go easy for first 200 miles, unless circle track car then so many laps to warm up then cool down.. Drag cars on stands.
I have installed and sent the kids out to play in derby cars with no problems.. We do not really get much heat, I don't think..
i was mainly going for you do not have to break in to get rid of a noise it should not be noisy to begin with. but yeas they should have time to ware into each other to help longevity

Dunno if some will call it "breaking in".
Terminology causes more problems than it solves"
You are correct, it should not whine when done,

Please understand this was said with tongue firmly in cheek. Of course with the fab skills to put a cad v6 in a spider it shouldn't be too tough. I guess we haven't seen the end result on that one though.

Convert it to a torque arm, with a straight axle.........

damn that's a good price for what it is.... hmmmm, I'm going to tell the dealership to pay up, if they do (big if), that might be the solution.

4 cut ring gears in new cars ...don't use yellow lead - the pattern always looks wrong

that could be... gforce claims the pattern was "perfect" when they got the rear differential back. These are the same people who claim they sent me the differential that came out of the car, yet somehow ended up with an '04 yoke on an '06 differential.... yeah, everyone's "perfect" and "never make a mistake"....

seriously whenever someone says "it's perfect" without saying that as a joke - they're already part of a very illustrious crew that have always been anything but.
                      Or
Self-proclaimed experts. True experts will say anything but they are an expert - why? - because they recognize the gaps and limits of their knowledge so they don't think (honestly) that they are experts.... and coincidently, those are the ones that have the best advice.

In the same vein, experts that think the world is only one way.... (you see lots of these in the religion world, but they do cross pollinate to the secular world)... it's not one way, ever.

interesting. I got the paperwork back for the car, and the dealership lied about the mileage so that it would still be under GM Certified warranty.

                        But that's a different issue.

                        Today's issue-
What do I do about the rear diff. It's now leaking, I was going to swap the other diff I had into the car - problem is it's a 2004, so it has the wrong yoke on it.

Do I buy one off the internet and hope it works? (stock)
                        Or?
nope, not going to put the one TC suggested - but that is a good idea, just far too much work for a DD

I like the idea of a 9" center section and one of the vendors has a 9" with everything but the center chunk for $4400 - so roughly 5500 with the center chunk... but I really don't want to spend another 5k on this car....

                        other ideas?

Top it off, seal it up, then, SELL THE CAR!

I'm buying a stock rear differential from a wrecking yard - that will at least get it on the road again.... when I hit the lottery, of IF the dealership does the honest thing I'll change direction. More likely, though, if I got paid off on the car I'd buy another H3, and put the balance of the dollars into the 50 Buick
