I thought Isky lifters were meant to blead down? iirc, I thought they were known as hi-rev lifters, designed not to pump up at high rpm by bleeding off oil pressure. I'd get another set from a different supplier.

I have and isky cam and lifter set in the Centurion, 55,000+ miles on them. The lifters only rattle for a couple seconds if I've let the car sit for a month or more.
    Escaped on a technicality.

What did you set the valve lash at, how far past zero lash did you set it at?

        Buick's are on a shaft and non-adjustable.

if you "over lash" the hydraulic lifters, the motor won't run because it'll hang the valves open when they pump up (yep, I own that mistake too).

I think it's really odd that they'd close. The hydraulic lifters have maybe .050 of "adjustment" in the lifter, but I'm certain you have at least .500 of lift - thus, the Isky guy was right - still an idiot because he could have easily explained it to you (I hate people who won't show their work - just make a statement). I bet they even have a cut-away lifter somewhere to show you.

I'd honestly just put the lifters (and the fixed one) back in the hole they came from. As for adjustment 1/4 turn from zero lash is all it needs. The best way to figure out zero lash is to spin the push rod until you feel drag while you're tighten the nut.

Place your bets! Place your bets! Who here thinks I can get oil pan down and out so I change the rear main seal without pulling the 454? Place your bets!!

I'm thinking you can. The old cotter pin trick to get the upper out and there you go. Is that a rope seal, a two piece rubber, or a one-piece?

I got a two piece Viton seal this time. No rope on this engine.

If it's anything like my Centurion it shouldn't be a problem with unbolted engine mounts and jacking up the engine by the crankshaft.

I got the top half of the motor back together yesterday. Just need to set the valve lash and refill the radiator. I didn't get to the rear main seal today as I would've needed a raft. We got just about 1/4 of yearly rain fall in the last 24 hrs.

What was wrong with the upper end of the engine Scott?
That much rain would have been allot of snow - be thankful for your geographical goodness.

Yesterday I kept saying, "For once it's not snowing" The mountains here are snow capped here in So. Cal.

Lifter went bad. Pulled them all and had Isky fix the bad one and check the others. A clip broke below the cup in the lifter causing it to bottom out and not pump up.

Yannick buys a ton of their stuff, albeit the roller stuff. I got his deal. $285 for cam, lifters and springs.
