Before taking taxpayer money, they should have gone through Chapter 11 in the first place: Get rid of union contracts and unrealistic legacy costs, get rid of Wagoner and the rest of the management, shed about a third of the dealerships and emerge as a better, leaner, more profitable company.

It will be interesting to watch this play out. Although, I think the term "strategic bankruptcy" might be a better way of saying what they are doing... probably a creditor or union is holding out...

You know I know GM is doing bad, but GM is a conglomeration of many smaller companies(brands). So in saying that, how are the individual companies doing. I mean if Chevy and Cadillac are making money but it's the other brands that are pulling them down wouldn't it make since to rid yourself of those companies.

An organization as large as GM will not close its doors. It will simply reorganize, hopefully for the better.

Happens all the time, with companies a fraction of the size.

I drove a late model Lucerne the other day and it really wasn't a bad car. Now don't get me wrong it is no hot rod, but as a family sedan it wouldn't be too bad. I understand Buicks are selling like hot cakes in China, the only export bright spot in the GM lineup.

I really like the new cadillacs; and I still like the H3s.... but next in my garage would be a ZO6 or a Camaro.... which won't be for lots of years.
