No kidding, I don't think I'd get a mile in to town before I'd have three cops on my ass, writing me for everything they could think of.

Unfortunately in Kalifornia's police state I'm all for the sleeper. I've had buddies pulled over for 4" cowl induction hoods. I think the only cars that get away with outrageous displays of hardware are Rods. Maybe its because the cops know that only old guys drive 'em. ;)

I can see tall hoods, jacked up back, big tires being a problem in a lot of areas, but here in good ole East Tn I would say just about anything goes, some places are just more tolerant. I guess you just have to adapt your build style to what you can get by with.

I guess my blown roll bar equipped minitubbed 55 is just too damn mellow...I've put 66k miles on it and never been pulled over. And several thousand of those miles were in California.

I'm with Chad. I've always been of the opinion your hotrod shouldn't be a daily driver. It should be something you take out on weekends to have fun with. It should be somewhat temperamental and give you a sore a$$ after being behind the wheel for a few hours.
I dig the pro touring thing, and some are pretty cool, but they just don't strike fear in anybody the way way a nasty ol' hot rod or pro street car should. Just my 2 cents worth ;)

by the end of that time period we had 3 or 4
cars around here that had tub jobs that wouldnt
run in the 14's!!! one was a 18 sec s-10 with 16 inch
wide tires, pro stars, and wheelie bars. :-\
the true fast tubbed cars were pretty cool

Yeah sure..... If ya drive 'em every day they get dirty. wouldn't want that. A race car shouldn't be a daily driver, but a daily driver should be a hotrod. :D

wouldn't want to take my daily driver/hotrod to work everyday, in rush hour traffic with the nut jobs on the road nowadays. I just think your hotrod should be something special, if it's your daily ride, it loses some of that mystic

A few times a summer the local burger joint/ ice cream shop has a cruise-in, and there are occasionally some ground pounders there. One in particular comes to mind, I didn't pay as much attention to it because it was a Chevy, until it started up. The exhaust was dual 4-inch pipes that ended right above the rear axle, and it was loud. When he left, he started moving, was going about 10, and then he stood on it and lit up those wide tires, I was impressed. That had to be fast, but that was the only time I've ever seen it and I didn't talk to the guy, so I don't know if he runs it, or even drives it that much. I'm looking foreward to seeing more of those cars in the summer, and driving the hell out of mine.

The Dart was originally something I intended to make a do it all / handling / braking / everything car, but I've recently been thinking maybe I should make it into something with a heavier emphasis on straight line speed, and just settle for safe and predictable handling. I'm not too sure how the 225/50 tires are going to hook so it's possible I may end up changing the wheel and tire package a bit to meet the goals. But would I tub it? It's a bit of work to tub it and relocate the springs inboard, so probably only if I can't get it to hook on 10" tires.

Come on, sack up!!! You know how you keep from getting tickets while driving a Pro Street car? Be smarter than the guy with the red lights.

Make it legal. It's not hard. Lights, dot tires, exhaust, and you're set.

Put cutouts on it so you can be crazy loud when you can get away with it and go from there. Hell, it depends on what state you are in as to noise restrictions. In Texas, every motor vehicle is required to be equipped with a muffler. I have two on my Camaro. And when a cop asked me one time, while in a parking lot, if I knew that my car was illegal, I asked why. He said because I needed a muffler on my car, and that I would be pulled over if I left the lot. I told him to save us both some time and come over and look at BOTH of my mufflers. He looked under the back, while it was still running, to see two 3" two chamber Flowmasters staring him in the face. I asked if there would be anything else, and then drove my perfectly legal car down the road.

I was pleasant, he received an bit of education, and we were all happy.

Intimidation will not stop me from getting my Nova into street terror trim. The man cannot keep me down.
